"Our job is to make money"
So says the one percent.

What a sad, pathetic existence that must be. Living for nothing other than materialism. Creating nothing, but destroying everything. My job is to make money too. Enough so my family stays healthy and fed. Money for me is a means to an end, not the end itself. How sad it must be to live a circular life. A life where achievement is measured by how much you made and how many people you screwed today. Then tomorrow you jump back in the circle and try to achieve more. A life with no satisfaction because too much is not enough and there is always more to steal.

One percent folks seem to think I am "jealous" of them. HA! More like I pity them. Look at tonight for example.

Tonight the Hedge Fund Manager will leave his office, probably go out and drink at some trendy bar where he will sit and laugh at the OWS people with his friends. Friends that would stab him in the back for a fucking dollar.
Then he will probably head to some expensive trendy restaurant where the food tastes like shit but he can score points for being there. He will probably meet his spouse who spends her days either shopping at Tiffany's or meeting with her lawyers to see if she can get out of the Pre-Nup, all the while leaving the kids with their illegal immigrant nanny. They'll talk about money for 5 minutes and then sit and stare at each other the rest of the evening. Probably both sitting there thinking of ways to off each other.
Yes what a wonderful life that must be.

Me? Tonight I'm making baked pasta, one of my kids favorites. Cheap and Delicious. After that it's game night. Thursdays is game night and NO VIDEO GAMES. Board or card games only. I will sit with the people I love and laugh and joke. We'll talk politics and movies and South Park, and we'll snack and play games till bed. And everyone in my house, no matter how much money is in the bank, will go to bed with a smile.

Jealous? Not fucking hardly.

1. If you want to know how the 1% lives, read Brett Easton Ellis' 'American Psycho'
And just remember, this is not an exit :)

10. American Psycho is at time funny, infuriating and shocking, but never depressing
Well, until you realize these are the people who "own" us

7. never read the book but saw the movie
and the main character is definitely a 1 percenter

"There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there. "

2. But whatever happened to ethics and morals?

And obeying the fuggen law?

Obviously they don't cover silly stuff like that in business schools any more.

4. Everyone needs to make money
I don't think that's really at issue. IT's making money at the expense of others - like those who outsource jobs or raid pension funds or foreclose on homes rather than working with the home owner - that's where the problem lies.

This country is rapid becoming an oligarchy. It probably already is. There's a lack of ethics in what is hapening now and people are getting pissed.

5. Their job is to make money for their investors.
Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 05:56 PM by dkf
Yes they are supposed to do it within the rules and regulations but the bottom line is that their job is to make money.

Their job isn't to achieve spiritual fulfillment by using other people's money if that is the question.

14. There wasn't a question...
They claim OWS is out there because they are jealous. I'm calling bullshit. You can think what you want. If you think making your living by manipulating markets, investing other peoples money and using the current laws to screw as many people as possible is a righteous way to make a living then more power to you. Personally I think it's pathetic to be so useless as to not create anything but material wealth. But that's just me.

15. If I invested my retirement money in you, would you provide me a living?
Or would I land up on the street?

9. its when...
Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 06:04 PM by Locrian
It's when they take that to mean that "making money" is the ONLY job. Meaning everything else in life is nothing unless it's a $$$.

That is a sad and pathetic existence. But it's the outcome of having a system that only values $$$.

Ask them: "make money for what?". What do you want to DO in life with that money?

11. People who want that much money want it for only one thing
To buy and own the world and become everyone's slave-master.

13. I'm perfectly content with what I have
I came into this existence with a bare ass and a desire to suck a tit. It takes very little for me to be happy. I'd rather have a tool or toy that I made myself out of something that it wasn't really made for what I use it for but works anyway than all the money in the world. I'm a happy man
