I think I see what they are trying to do with tonight's Republican Debate
First off this is no debate. They keep agreeing with each other and complementing each other. Its like a well rehersed skit.

So what are they doing? I think its rigged and I think from the way its playing out its all Newt's idea. They are trying to segregate themselves from the rest of the Republican zoo. They are trying to show just the two of them as the sensible ones, the ones with experience, the smart ones. I think Newt is shooting the entire wad on this one and plans to offer Cane the VP slot. No shit. And I still think Newt will be the Republican Nominee. Tonight is the best audience Newt is likely to see and he knows it - its tonight or never. Its equally obvious that Cane has nothing to say, but he's on the stage because he's part of the team.

That's my take on tonight, and I think it will work.

1. Hey Cain, don't get shy about your allegations, Newt is no moral and ethical hero either. Ask him
About his last marriages and why they ended. You will find a man who is the muck on the bottom of the barrel we call society.

6. I got the same idea.
These are prepared answers, where they can talk as long as they like without any challenges.

8. Well, not too prepared on Cain's part.
There have been two questions so far that Cain was asked and he had to pass on and let Newt go first because Cain didn't know what the question meant or what the answer was.
I've never seen a debate before where one of the participants was asked a question and then said to the other participant: 'You go first'
LOL

11. A great tweet on Twitter regarding the debate

@PaulBegala
Newt & Cain scheduling a debate during the best college football game of the year proves neither is qualified to be Prez.

15. These so-called debates have been an obvious disaster.
When you got 8 of these clowns on 1 stage, the tendency is to try to tack to the right of all of your opponents. The result is they all end up going off the deep end. I think this may be a way to try to change the perception of the voter or at least stage manage a discussion between 2 of the candidates to seem less bombastic and more thoughtful, if that's possible.

What I wonder is how these 2 got chosen over the other 6. Is this going to be the format for the next 3 "debates" where 2 each of the candidates have a discussion on the issues, rather than a debate?

18. I not so sure that this much exposure is a good thing for today's GOP.
The more you see them, the worse they seem to be collectively. Saying the same stupid things over and over make for great sound bites - that can be used against them in the GE.

.... from the apparent mantle of "thinker" that Newtie has somehow carved out for himself. If he is a thinker, me and most of my friends are Albert Einstein.
