My Husband Got a Job!!!!!
I've told a couple of people here, but I thought I would spread it far and wide.

After a year and a half my husband finally starts a new job today. He's working at Macy's (today is his first day of training) in the Men's Department. It's been fun to find clothing for him (he has to wear all black) and the excitement in his voice has been amazing.

Things will get better - I just know it. Today is the start of better days for us. And hopefully his new job is the spark needed for others (Macy's hired a ton of people for the holidays). This crap has to turn around soon. And I believe it starts for my family today.

Love and hugs and kisses to all  :grouphug:

You won't regret it.

My wife smells really good when she uses it.

Happy to hear about the job too.

13. Congrats--I'll even try to buy something at Macy's just to support him
I really hate that Macy's took over our beloved Marshall Fields (and so many other local department stores), and I don't shop there very often. But you know what? It's important for us to buy things there so that people like your husband can keep their jobs! Unless we buy, they don't need employees.

So, yes--New men's socks or underwear for the men in my life, just to support the workers!

23. Macy's must be doing a lot of hiring!
One other DUer posted about a job. My son's friend also got her very first job with Macy's (I think she started this week).

Congrats! I'll definitely spend some bucks in Macy's - they are helping people!

I just found something too (at Sears), and they treat me well. They said many of the seasonal employees will be kept on board after the holidays.

31. I want to be excited. I want to join in the celebration
but I have to ask, is this a minimum wage retail seasonal job?

I'm worried about our long term sustainability. Being "employed" is great. But I am fearful of employment vs "underemployed". My daughter's in the same boat and I fret that we are simply satisfying "employment" stats without gaining any measurable, solid wage and benefits towards a "real" career instead of temp work.

I'm happy for you. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I am simply worried we are so grateful for crumbs we overlook the bigger picture.

I got that same seasonal position with Macy's in 2007 and they hired me after the holidays. I stayed on another year and a half and moved on to office work. That job really turned things around for me.

Tell him to ask every customer who comes through if they want to open a Macy's charge. His manager will love him and they give out cash for it as well.
