Obama campaign denies (bullshit) charge of 'writing off working class whites'
Edited on Mon Nov-28-11 08:51 PM by bigtree
The Obama campaign flatly denies it’s writing off working class whites. Spokesman Ben LaBolt emails:

Some in the media and in academia seem to be having a discussion about a mythic campaign strategy that doesn’t have a bearing on ours. If you want to know where we’re competing, take a look at our organization — we’re competing on an expanded playing field that includes AZ and GA, we’re building the biggest grassroots campaign in history, and not only are we competing across all demographics but we’re working to expand the electorate once again.

Three conservative articles today, all echoing this dog whistle . . . here's the third one from the WSJ just released this afternoon: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203802204577066640654042360.html . . . this one claims DEMOCRATS have abandoned the working class.

5. choice is between repukes who clearly work only for the 1%
and Democrats who toss a bone to the middle-class and poor once in a while

6. most of what Democrats propose and work into legislation ends up blocked
. . . by republicans.

Congress, as a whole, produces very little for the working-class. There wouldn't be such a disparity if Democrats had their way. Even in their majorities, they still faced republican filibusters which blocked many, many progressive remedies and initiatives from even coming to a vote. Likewise, legislation is ultimately crafted to account for that conservative filibuster. All that's been managed by our party has been a series of symbolic votes on legislation that goes nowhere. Of course, the only product to advance out of the political landscape is going to be well-short of anything Democrats and other progressives are advocating.

Still, some persist in repeating the lie that Democrats and this administration don't concern themselves with the working-class. They should realize that it's the primary goal of republicans to sow discontent, apathy, and antipathy in our confidence and expectation of government.

3. I remember this from 2008: The news media's obsession with working class whites
which I think they obsessed over because it was perceived as the weak link in Obama's coalition of voters.

If Hillary had been the nominee, then the rap we would have heard from the Georgetown Cocktail Party media would have been about her problems with affluent white suburbanites.

They will always needle you over something.

4. Oh boy, are they really going to try "Obama doesn't like white people" again?

That worked so well last time.

7. Why not? They can't run a positive campaign on their own platform. -nt
