Beagle Freedom Project
Welcome to Beagle Freedom Project, a mission to rescue beagles used in animal experimentation in research laboratories and give them a chance at life in a loving forever home. In this site you can read rescue stories, watch videos, learn more about beagles used in animal testing, and how you can help by fostering, adopting, sponsoring and donating.

The experience of rescuing a beautiful beagle who has spent his or her entire life in a lab, and watching them take their first steps outside on grass is indescribable. Beagle Freedom Project is a mission of Animal Rescue, Media & Education (ARME) and all contributions are tax-deductible.

1. Poor dogs! Unbelievable what humans do to these animals.
It is a wonderful project. We have 4 dogs that came from shelters in the South. We live in NY and right now we are dealing with one of them that is Heartworm Positive. We will do what ever treatment will work for her. She is a wonderful dog as all 4 of them are. When you rescue an animal from a lab or shelter they are so grateful. We could never be without a dog in this house. Kudos to you for your work.

2. Gaaaah
I grew up with beagles. My dad's hunting dogs were Family Members who were fed dog food, eggs, home made yogurt, and ground steak. A tick was an emergency in my parents house. A burr un their fur from running in the woods? Stop everyhtnig!

We have a saying in our family - Never give your heart to Beagle - a beagle will break your heart every time. :-)

I'd bet a week un a family/home those rescued beagle brats get real comfy and start thinking they are human REAL quick, :-)

3. We used to have a lemon beagle.
White with yellow spots, no brown. She was the sweetest dog ever. Total family member. Alas, died of cancer at 10 years old.

The government actually has a Beagle Brigade. They're used to sniff out contraband food at airports and ship terminals. Beagles can sniff out ANYTHING food related from a mile away, as I'm sure any beagle owner will attest.

12. Ours Isn't
the sharpest tool in the shed, either, but she's by far the gentlest, sweetest dog I've ever met. She even won over my youngest daughter, who always claimed she hated dogs. Now, they're bff's!

5. What a great project!
I didn't realize beagles in particular were used as research animals---that's outrageous:mad:

Our shelter beagle was rescued from a puppy mill where she was kept in a crate and used to breed "puggles". I don't think she'd ever felt grass under her paws either.

I hope all those sweet dogs find homes! Wish I was close enough to foster one.

7. Our rescue from North Carolina, sweetest dog ever
we know he was rescued from a kill shelter when he was taken out and brought North. We KNOW he had no socialization skills and very bad teeth, ignored other dogs, could not get enough human attention (still can't) but now he's wonderful and healthy and happy just to be a dog..............

11. I love beagles.
I have had 8 dogs in my life; 7 beagles and a lab/german shorthair cross.

Beagles are gentle and playful dogs and have unique and sometimes mischivious personalities.

Good with kids.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLZMxRP_F5w&feature=colike

Our second rescue from beagles who have lived their entire lives inside a research laboratory. These beagles have known nothing except the confines of metal cages. They have known no soft human touch, no warm bed, no companionship, no love. They have never been outside or sniffed a tree or grass. Finally, after years of being poked and prodded, these beagles are FREE! ARME got the call that a facility was willing to release them to us after they had been used in several tests. We picked them up on June 8th and now they are all in loving foster homes, and one has already been adopted. If you are interested in adopting any of these special beagles, please email us at: shannon@beaglefreedomproject.org. If you cannot adopt, but would like to help, ARME is a non-profit organization and we rely on your donations to continue this work. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. You can donate here: http://www.beaglefreedomproject.org/donate.php

PLEASE DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS TESTED ON ANIMALS! You can see their faces now..... buy only products that have the cruelty-free symbol.

- The http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLZMxRP_F5w&feature=colike">video of these dog's first encounter with being out and free in the sun and air, with the dirt and sniffing around the plain 'ol grass is just wonderful......

14. Beagles are used in labs because they are "docile"
and less likely to bite.

15. Awww!
They are so beautiful. I hope they get a chance at a better life. I'd love to have one, but I can't because I already have cats and can't support another pet right now.
