1. There's a reason for the word 'bottomless'
Edited on Tue Nov-29-11 09:28 AM by lunatica
Unfortunately it's no longer just an abstract intellectual theory.

2. Grrrr
What is up with people just adding "er" to words? I see it even in news articles!

Sorry, no such thing as "stupider."

It's "more stupid."

5. The thing about the English language is that it's intensely modifiable.

11. Are you really gonna write "LOL" and then lament the butchering of the English tongue?
Lol, indeed.

16. Not to be a grammar Nazi
But I find it amusing that someone who misspelled "intensely" justifies an improper word like "stupider"....

Many non-Romance languages have them.

8. Languages evolve, friend. Otherwise we'd be speaking Anglo-Saxon right now
or, arguably, Indo-European. One of the marvels of the English language is its capacity for the coinage of new words. Of course I can't take credit for "stupider" as it's been around for a long while (as you atest). However the clarity of my meaning was seemingly unimpaired by my use of the offending neologism. In general, linguists do note a general trend toward more standard formulations in the English language, as evidenced by the assertion of regular conjugations of once irregular verbs (among other phenomena). Still, thanks for the input.

10. It's frightening to think a segment of the GOP base is so greedy that they
are willing to support such a candidate in order to hang on to more of their money.

14. What's so odd is the number of Republicans among the corporate screwees
and they're fighting to let billionaire exploiters hang on to the money squeezed out of ordinary consumers like themselves. It'd be funny if it weren't for all those jobless people.
