Milwaukee JournalSentinelNov. 28, 2011 | Madison - The group attempting to recall Gov. Scott Walker says it has gathered more than 300,000 signatures in 12 days.
There is no way to independently verify the group's signature count because the petitions will not become public unless it turns them in to state election authorities.
But if its numbers are accurate, that would mean its staff and volunteers collected more than half of the 540,208 signatures they need in less than two weeks.
The group, United Wisconsin, launched the recall effort on Nov. 15 and has 60 days to gather the signatures. They are due Jan. 17.
