I am a Proud Democrat... Here's Why
There is a striking difference between being a member of one of the two main American political parties.

Besides the fact that most of the republicans who are in office are only working to win the next election instead of taking care of the country, there is another, deeper, more basic foundational difference.

Remember that republican saying from about 2002?

The saying: "You are either with us or against us".
Remember that?

It wasn't just a political statement, it was an edict from the republicans that "You better watch what you say and who you say it to."

That is the way of the republican party: "Fall in behind and do as we say, or else."

The party I align with, the party that I am most comfortable being a member of, is the Democratic party. I am proud to be a democrat. Democrats would never tell us you are either are with us or against us. If they did they'd be run out of town on a rail.

The leaders of my party know better than to tell we members that we better watch what we say.

We are free to be for the good and against the bad that our leaders produce.

We Democrats speak up and do not toe the masters' line like the 'good' republicans do.

No, we Democrats would never be in lockstep like the republicans are, and it makes us a bit un-jointed. My fellow members wouldn't have it any other way. That is another reason why I am proud to be a Democrat.

"I am proud to be a Democrat, where at least I know I'm free!"

3. " Democrats would never tell us you are either are with us or against us." You're right. Instead
democrats tell us, "where else are you going to go?" I know because I've had that exact statement made to me by the campaign manager of a democratic party candidate.

5. Where else can you go?
I tell you what I am doing and where I am going.

I am Occupying a seat in the party hierarchy and working to reform the party from the ground up. So far so good. Of course, with the knowledge and wisdom carried from DU to there, how can I lose?

6. Most do act like Dems
However, most Dems in public are lazy and want everyone to do the hard work without them getting off the asses. Even here on DU we have so many that just want to complain and never get out and do the hard work of grassroots organizing. They have a bag of excuses and that's why we are where we are, eh?

7. You done pissing on "most Dems" or do you have a little more bile to vent?
If this is your way of shoring up the party to help President Obama into another term and bring more Democrats into office, I think you should really rethink your tactics.

11. heh
Most Dems are lazy. I've been trying like hell to get them to get off their asses and protect us from the voting machines, improve the environment and in general take action. Maybe lazy isn't the right term, maybe scared of their shadows is more correct?

What we see with Occupy is folks FINALLY taking actions. And they pretty much don't cotton to the PARTY too much, you seem to be smart, why is that? Why don't they claim the Dem party as their own, eh?

8. I'm a Democrat who votes issues rather than party or politician.
"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.

"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." John Quincy Adams

12. Get off the floor and show some muscle.
Or just stay down on your back as it seems that your little smile represents you well?

10. Yup. Democrats are free. Republicans have to follow many preordained hatreds and fears.
They are slaves.
