Facebook post from a deranged person
Found this on Facebook first thing this morning. I have known this person for a very long time and we argue constantly about everything. She is convinced that everyone is on welfare, disability, and unemployment for life. I get so mad at her I could scream...reason doesn't mean a thing to her.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read.

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I have tried everything I can think of to make her realize she is wrong. She works in the medical field and her response is always "I see it every day!"

Any suggestions? I am out of ideas, and frankly, blue in the face from trying to make her understand.

2. Tell Her that when she votes she'll automatically be turned over to a Socialist hit list
and her life will be in danger. She sounds wacky enough to believe you. I've always found that people who are that far to the right can be pushed even further and even out of the system all together. Push her out of the Republican Party into one of the far right groups (like The American Independent or some such). You don't want folks like that voting for anyone that might get elected.

3. I tend to steer clear of the right. However, why can't you tell her that "I see it every day"
Edited on Wed Aug-01-12 04:04 AM by No Elephants
is not a specific fact that has any chance of persuading you and it sure does not prove you wrong?

moreover, why are you arguing with her pat talking points? you are letting her define the playing field. Just send her your own facts and talking points. Or, at least, make her be specific.

You can also concede that is right on some things. The government cannot give anything to anyone without taking from someone else. The government has always given a lot to the very rich and, yes, to do that, it has had to take from everyone else. If Reid is right about Romney not paying any taxes while receiving millions a year from Bain, that is a perfect example. Romney has never been shy about costing taxpayers money, yet he has done everything he can, legal or not, to avoid paying taxes. *If you google this site), maybe you can find one of my several posts on how he tried to chisel Utah out of a few bucks in state taxes.

However, maybe you have outgrown this person and should, as dainbramaged suggested, find a liberal friend. Or at least, a more politically intelligent RWer that does something other than mindlessly repeat dumbass RW talking points.

Finally, heads up. A lot of posts that read like yours have, in the past, turned out to be nothing but bait from RWers pretending to be Democrats, especially around election times. Especially people with a relatively low post count over many years and maybe a screen name very similar to other screen names with either zero posts or hidden profiles.

i am not saying at all that your post is nothing but RW bait, nore did I respond to it as though it were merely RW bait.

Just saying, don't be surprised if all DUers do not treat a post like yours as a sincere one and respond as thoughtfully as you might like. In fact, don't be surprised if some of the replies are suggestions for Onnanistic ways to spend some of your spare time.

4. She is just repeating prevalent right wing talking points.
In every workplace these points are repeated every day. All over the internet we hear the very same. This is a clear agenda. We have seen this in the past. When the Irish were dying of starvation by the millions during the potato famine the refrain heard in the UK was, "If we feed these poor Irish they will grow dependent on government handouts." Or something to that effect. Well, those millions that starved to death didn't grow to depend on government handouts, on that point they were certainly correct.

This propaganda effort by the right has gotten millions of gullible followers to adopt an Ayn Rand philosophy.

5. Here is how to reply:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.--- but it's sure nice to see ALL people fed and well cared-for.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.--- yes, this reminds me of how the Romney rich tax loophole their way into making the middle class pay for his profits.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.--- Yes, and, your point is exactly what?

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! When did multiplying wealth become the reason for living?

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation. Wow, that sounds just like wall-street banksters who don't make anything except misery by gambling on our investments.

Where has this person been?

Idiot.

7. What you should really tell your reasoning challenged friend, if you have the wherewithal:
Best suggestion: Don't waste your time or anyone else's on stuff this mind numbingly stupid. It boiis down to she does not want to be taxed by government. It's called living in a society. Get over it, figure out how to live by yourself on an uninhabited planet, asteroid, etc., or kill yourself. Those are the options.

Oh, and her arguments, such as they are, are arguments not to vote Republican more than they are arguments not to vote Democratic. It is a fact (you may have to explain that word to her) that wealth has not moved from the 1% to the 99%, but has moved from the 99% to the 1%, And that movement has accelerated in the last few decades.

Funny, in prior elections, the person who posted stuff like that would have specified having received it as an email. Now, it's posted on Facebook.

BTW, which medical office did you say she works in?

My most affordable health care plan would be staying as far away from any medical office where that numbskull works.

6. Apply all that to the parasirical wealthy.
The ones who gave her those talking points as a distraction from their own sociopathic behavior.
