A Graph That I Think Clearly Displays What We've All Been Suspecting About The Egypt Coverage

How we can help keep that graph up there:

I discovered AJE online before I had satellite TV a few years ago and learnt a lot about the best ways to watch it online. This is a compilation of tips I've been posting to help anyone out who wants to get a really cool way of watching it for free right now...

http://english.aljazeera.net/">Al Jazeera English are a 24/7 live news station with occasional documentaries and topical shows.

This is their regularly updated schedule:
http://english.aljazeera.net/Services/Schedule/ProgramSchedule.aspx

And here's a section on their site which links you to their shows' pages
(which are available to watch online after they've been broadcast):
http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/

http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/faultlines/">Fault Lines isn't on that site but I thoroughly recommend checking it out.

As well as on http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/">AJE's website stream, it can also be watched direct from Livestation's site here: http://www.livestation.com/channels/3-al-jazeera-english-english

Livestation's stream from their site is more stable than the one from AJE's.

An even more stable way of watching it is on Livestation's free standalone player which can be downloaded here: http://www.livestation.com/downloads

Choose your platform by clicking on one of these images...

This is what it looks like on my laptop (you can see it doesn't use up much bandwidth)...

Livestation also provide a multiple choice of international news and other types of channels for free (I just found a comedy movie channel and NASA TV on there, which is cool), as can be seen on the carousel you use to chose from...

They also have a chat function which means you can discuss different shows with viewers from around the world at the same time you're watching it being broadcast. Watch out though, some of the questions and comments from the chat room can be brought up for discussion during the show, that's just how they roll there sometimes.

Getting back to Al Jazeera English, they additionally upload all their excellent http://www.youtube.com/user/AlJazeeraEnglish#g/p">shows, documentaries & http://www.youtube.com/user/AlJazeeraEnglish#g/u">news reports to YouTube and http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes/">this page on their website.

It's all very user friendly, however, if anyone needs any hints, tips or just wants to make comments or ask a question about it please feel free to get in touch.

On Edit: I just did this one for shits n' giggles....

That Alexia graph tool sure is fun to play around with.

Edited on Sun Feb-06-11 06:25 PM by Celebrandil
They have a live stream on their Youtube page. Then there is a free Android app, that is even better than the Youtube stream... at least in my sofa.

I was wondering what the heck was going on after I'd been looking at their videos in the grid view and left that tab open. I could hear AJE on but couldn't work out where it was coming from for ages.

I ended up rebooting in case my laptop had gone all wobbly on me!

For all the extremely hard work you've been tirelessly doing.

:pals:

How are you? Have you managed to have a proper sleep yet?

I haven't been able to keep on top of it all as much as I'd like to as I've got a huge backlog of work to catch up on.

I'll post what I can, though.

15. Good post about how to get some real news for a change.
I wish they were broadcast around the US more than they are, but they'd put the others to shame real quick if more people were aware of them.

16. I found Livestation last week
I've been watching it almost exclusively since Egypt erupted. It's amazing how much more in depth they are on world affairs. I also enjoy Press TV, Real TV, and BBC World. It's a great, free tool, easy to use, and Turborama, I was planning on creating a thread on this very same thing and you beat me to it. :D Great job! K&R

24. It's a very good news site. Better than the BBC, even.
Been watching it for over a week now. Democracy Now is also a very good site for current news and views.

I had to turn off the rest of the crap based here in US.

25. Sort of a pointless comparison....
...About 85% of foxnews.com visitors are from the US, whereas only about 15% of aljazeera.net visitors are.

So, your graph is not really something anyone should have been "suspecting" in terms of a comparison between the two. If you meant that Aljazeera has gained a lot of viewers during the Egypt crisis, yeah...we all probably suspected that. Looks to be temporary though...the precipitous rise is being matched by a precipitous drop. Pull up the graph again.

TV ratings would be interesting. You must be able to get your hands on those...being an employee of Aljazeera and all. :puffpiece:

we call that almost flatline.

No, do not reach for the epi, nor the paddles... just declare it already.
