Ohio abortion ban would use heartbeat as barometer (would ban abortions if heartbeat detected)

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio will be the testing ground for a new approach to limiting abortions that would prohibit women from ending pregnancies at the first detectable fetal heartbeat, sometimes as early as 18 days after conception.

Republican state Rep. Lynn Wachtmann is preparing to unveil the so-called Heartbeat Bill on Wednesday. It is the first proposal of its kind in the nation, with Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma among states watching closely.

The bill was created by Janet Folger Porter, a native Ohioan and president of the conservative interest group Faith2Action. She says she helped craft the nation's first ban on late-term abortions as a then-legislative director at Ohio Right to Life and again picked Ohio to be at the forefront. Forty of 99 Ohio representatives have signed onto the heartbeat bill.

"We can't carry all the babies out of the burning building in one trip, but this bill will carry most of them out with it," Porter said. "With this legislation, we can save more than 20,000 lives a year. We've been taking baby steps for a long time. This is a leap."

...... & education to these very same babies after they are born.

BTW this bill has no chance because the right to have an abortion is the law of the land
and states can't make laws that supersede national laws although this will keep the fundy
tea baggers happy because they are "saving babies."

BTW a short time w/ "the google" will show that Janet Folger Porter is a first class nut and a grifter
by scamming the right wing.

2. If I Were Ohio Rep., My First Added Rider Would Be..........
.........to tack onto the bill a targeted tax raise that would increase funding for ADC, CHIPS, and any other program that helps pay for the care and nurturing of low-income children, as well as increasing funding programs aimed at combatting child abuse and child homelessness. Let's also increase funding for sexual education in our schools and other programs that help educate children in how to avoid unwanted pregnancies.

These Republicans all want these babies to be born so badly, but they don't want to have anything to do with them once they're born. Let THEM take care of them. And let THEM pick up the pieces when an unwanted child gets TREATED like an unwanted child.

This woman threw out the number 20,000, so I say let's go with that number. Show her the figures of just how much money it would cost the State of Ohio to raise and care for 20,000 unwanted children, how it breaks down in terms of a tax increase, and then sit back and watch how quickly she votes against her own bill.

4. I knew I was pregnant before a heartbeat could be detected. Many women don't.

How many miscarriages would be viewed with suspicion if this idiocy came to pass?

5. Roe would need to be overturned. Contrary to Roe prior to completion of the first trimester.
