Unprecedented: All US Embassadors called back to Washington
Edited on Tue Feb-08-11 04:36 PM by garybeck
Any idea what this is about? Apparantly the meeting took place last week but stangely there was almost zero information about it before or after.

All Ambassadors Called Back to Washington!
In an unprecedented move, apparently one that has never happened before, nearly all U.S. Ambassadors to all nations have been called back to Washington for a summit conference this week.

politico.com reports, "Ambassadors from almost all 260 U.S. embassies, consulates and other posts in more than 180 countries are expected to convene at the State Department for what’s being billed as the first meeting of its kind."

Clinton Ambassador Meeting: Unprecedented Mass Meeting Of Top Envoys
WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is convening an unprecedented mass meeting of U.S. ambassadors.

The top envoys from nearly all of America's 260 embassies, consulates and other posts in more than 180 countries will be gathering at the State Department beginning on Monday. Officials say it's the first such global conference.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/31/clinton-ambassador-meeting_n_816146.html

the "before it's news" website listed these possible reasons:

-To prearrange settling the debt score between nations prior to a new world currency roll-out

-A dollar currency devaluation

-China is calling in our debt

-New severely damaging Wikileaks about to release

-Afraid of electronic communication leaks of something very important to discuss

.........ON EDIT..............

found this link with more info. it appears there is some truth to the story but some speculation and hype have been mixed in... so who knows. here's the official story from the State Dept:

27. Subteranean Homesick Alien...by radiohead
Subterranean Homesick Alien

The breath of the morning
I keep forgetting.
The smell of the warm summer air.

I live in a town
where you can't smell a thing,
you watch your feet
for cracks in the pavement.

Up above
aliens hover
making home movies
for the folks back home,

of all these weird creatures
who lock up their spirits,
drill holes in themselves
and live for their secrets.

They're all uptight, uptight,
uptight, uptight,
uptight, uptight.

I wish that they'd sweep down in a country lane,
late at night when I'm driving.
Take me on board their beautiful ship,
show me the world as I'd love to see it.

I'd tell all my friends but they'd never believe me,
They'd think that I'd finally lost it completely.
I'd show them the stars and the meaning of life.
They'd shut me away.
But I'd be alright, alright,
I'd be alright,
I'm alright.

I'm just uptight, uptight,
uptight, uptight,
uptight, uptight,
uptight, uptight,
uptight.

8. That's my guess too. It does seem a bit dramatic.
The administration must feel that some situation warrants doing this. If not, it'll be regarded as foolish. So it has to be really serious...

13. they want to talk in a room, not on phones, emails, etc.
why? I think the obvious reason is they don't trust email, phones, etc to be secure. And that's never happened before.

they have to respond to the lack of secrecy and they are going off the grid to strategize or law out new operating procedures because you cannot develop new secrecy methods in the open. This is just a guess mind you but it fits.

26. That makes a good deal of sense, but it does seem extreme.
It shows you how seriously they regard the Wikileaks action...

30. when I look at the HBGary thing -- they were reading the guys emails
as he sent them and they picked their timing accordingly. If stuff like that is happening to diplomats then they have a serious problem. I'm starting to think that much of this is not about "leaks" but rather about lack of effective communications security.

...something similar. Man, they are so helpful like that.

Seems it is a dated story, and this meeting already took place. I have a thread with a bunch of relevant links around here somewhere on GD.

9. Sec. of State website has links to what it is about.
One key goal is "making USAID the premier development agency".
Streamlining how various agencies work in host countries ( I hear budget cuts in that idea).
Ending duplication of services and efforts.

Overall, it seemed to be a "come to Jesus" meeting to emphasize the changes in Foreign Policy, but i sense
Wikileaks had a lot of impact on any embassy services reform.

For those interested and who enjoy reading between the lines, the specifics are available here:

10. With my
:tinfoilhat: on, I have read that the US gov't is going to devalue the dollar. One day it is $1.00 and the next day it will be $.30. Everything will cost a LOT more.

I guess everyone around the world knows that the Dollar is worthless. I've read that tourists at the Taj Mahal are laughed at if they try to buy souvenirs with dollars. They are NOT accepted.

Bernanke has printed so much money and now it will be worthless.

Supposedly, this is to occur sometime between March 6 and the 15th.

After seeing the price of silver skyrocket today, maybe there is something to this.

Oh, and to make matters worse, the poles are going to shift. Supposedly all of NASA and the gov't knows of this. So watch to see if all the Elites head inland....because the coastlines will be clobbered with water. The electromagnetics go wild.

And this is somehow confirmed by FEMA ordering a ton of MREs...those ready to eat meals. Who knows?

I have a flashlight, a can opener, a corkscrew....and will head out for lots of wine just in case. Oh, and chocolate!

15. surely this is a reaction to the wikileaks cables. training on how to not embarass yourself.
and some kind of novel, extra secure communications protocol, along with hillary's personal assurance that any embrassing leak will be met with her foot in someone's rear.

Seems the only global issue would be Wikileaks and new communication procedures.

So now they will stuff in a load of PC garbage in the last place it should be...
