Walker exempts the Praetorian Guard from union busting.

Gov. Scott Walker is pushing for sweeping changes to collective bargaining that would ensure most people who works for the government in Wisconsin can't negotiate their benefits, pensions and working conditions - except for local police, firefighters and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers.

======================================

Some say it's just because the badge-toters supported him in the election. I say it's more than that. I think he wants to keep them on his side for use against the coming citizens' rebellion.

5. Who do you think were the major supporters of Walker's bid?
...and who do you think is required to pass his labor-busting budget through?

Walker collected endorsements from the Milwaukee Police Association, the West Allis Professional Police Association, the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters and the Wisconsin Troopers Association during his campaign. And on Tuesday the governor announced he had hired Steven Fitzgerald, father of state Senate and Assembly majority leaders Scott and Jeff Fitzgerald — two figures Walker absolutely needs to advance his agenda through the Legislature — as State Patrol superintendent.

Good luck getting the National Guard to stop them. Isn't that a 1910's tactic?

7. No.
Walker and other republicns think that public education and other services are best handled by private contractors, therefore they should not be able to dictate their terms of employment to the government.

Cops and firemen are an essential service that the government provides within the boundaries of its necessary duties, therefore, those workers can unionize, as they cannot be replaced by private equivalents.

Privitization of everything is best, dontcha know?

8. Nonsense, Police & fire services, as well as prisons,
have been privatized in many places.

Yes, these unions supported Walker, and yes, they are being paid back for their support, but I think Walker is thinking "paramilitary" uses for them. He's already threatened to call out the National Guard, and that is a very significant clue to his cast of mind.
