2. 100 years ago, in the Triangle shirtwaist factory...
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2011/02/28/2011-02-28_pbs_documentary_the_triangle_fire_commemorates_100th_anniversary_of_deadly_facto.html

Here's why you should watch a new documentary about a century-old fire in which 146 people died: because it's just as much about the America where that could happen.

Jamila Wignot's "Triangle Fire" is the first of two new documentaries produced for the 100th anniversary of the March 25, 1911, Triangle Shirtwaist fire that remained New York's worst building disaster until Sept. 11.

...

Tragically, though, it took the fire itself to convince America and American politicians that workers needed protection - a premise that, ironically, has become a raw topic again just as we reach the anniversary.

"Triangle Fire" argues persuasively that a country needs to care before a tragedy happens, not just after.

Tireless work, struggle for solidarity, and martyrdom. A few among many of the sacrifices women have made for us all.
