"U.S. pulls plug on high-speed railway project in Florida"
WASHINGTON —

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Friday the federal government will allocate $2.4 billion once earmarked for a high-speed rail project in Florida elsewhere, dashing Japan’s hopes to sell its bullet train system in the state.

LaHood said the administration of President Barack Obama decided to cancel the financing after talking with Florida Gov Rock Scott, who had vowed to reject federal money for the project, U.S. and other media reported.

2. Hey, we can use it out here in the Midwest.
We've got lots and lots of miles to cover, and every little bit would help.

4. Even a regular-speed commuter railway would be welcome in much of the country.

9. Florida just lost $4.2 BILLION dollars? Or did Japan lose it in Florida?
Where are the laws that say only American jobs can be created by American taxpayer's money on projects in America?

WTF is WRONG with this country's leaders? Which part of WE NEED JOBS don't they understand?

13. so where did you imagine they were going to come from?
I think high-speed rail is stupid, but it isn't as though the old Pullman or Budd factory was going to spring back to life after decades and start rolling out modern railcars. There is no indigenous American technology in this realm.

11. One just wonders...
Was the high speed railway project an issue at election time? If so,why weren't the candidates vetted properly to determine how they would stand on this issue? If a newspaper knew that Scott was never going to support it, but Sink would have, then that newspaper should be taken out and flogged.
