We've already had 2.5 feet. We had a few inches the day before the storm started. It's supposed to keep snowing all day.

The National Weather Service says the winter storm that's whacking northern Vermont is going to be one for the record books.

Meteorologist Bruce Taber says 20.6 inches of snow has fallen at the Burlington International Airport and it's supposed to keep snowing through the early afternoon.

He says the storm is similar to the Valentine's Day storm of 2007.

He says some parts of northern Vermont could get up to 30 inches of snow.

The storm ranks as the sixth greatest on record in Burlington and it could set a record for the greatest ever March snowfall.

Schools are closed across Vermont, thousands of customers in southern Vermont are without power and traveling is treacherous.

3. You have my sympathies. These winter storms have really been kicking our butt, of late.
Was that much snowfall forecasted?

I hope you have a good supply of food and other necessities.

6. I feel for you
about a month ago we got 16 maybe 18 inches of snow, week later another one just like that, hard to measure as the wind was blowing so hard which piled the snow up in piles in some places and hardly any in others but it sucked big time. We don't normally get more than 6 to 8 inches of snow per snow storm but this year was different. Much better than the previous two winters where we got freezing rain that took the trees and the power lines down. Lot of people around here where without power for days, we were lucky and only lost power long enough for me to get the generator out up and going.
This is a good time to work on those projects that require a lot of thinking as it keeps the mind off worrying about the snow.

Good Luck

8. Stay warm.
And if nothing else, you're going to have extra insulation. I've seen pictures of snow piled up as tall as houses in SD and MN this year. At least the snow is helping them keep their houses warm and save gas? Maybe. I don't know, but it seems plausible.

9. Bummer-- we got the same storm, but it was rain down here...
back when we had our huge storm all my doors were blocked by drifts, so I started to climb out a window to shovel them out.

Then I realized there was no place to go.

10. Global warming, Hah!
Anyway, I'm expecting that email from my favorite wingnut any second now.

No point in explaining climate change, disappearing glaciers, melting ice caps, fires across Russia, Australian floods or whatever.

One big snowstorm negates all that science stuff (even if the pointy-headed scientists predicted exactly this years ago as a consequence of GW).

22. Just remember warm air absorbs more moisture
When you get into the inevitable argument. More moisture in the air means more snow. It's an argument even a denialist can get their tiny brains around.

11. I don't envy you
I can drive about 30 miles and see snow piled 15 or 20 feet deep.

Yet all we had this winter was flurries once or twice.

12. Roads are way more than treacherous, even bus service in Burlington has stopped :(
Driving last night was a nightmare, seems cars were falling off the roads.... do they not know how to drive in snow? I will never figure it out.... Get snow tires, slow down and stay off the roads if you are unsure..... There aren't enough wrecker's in the area to clear the cars today....

23. Good time to teach your 15 year old how to drive
go find an open parking lot and show them what to do...

That way when they are in their 30's driving to work they can have fun drifting by idiots on the road with confidence :)

13. Stay safe cali. Here in Ct. we had a great deal of rain and it melted
the majority of the remaining snow. Flooding is severe in some areas, schools closed etc.

Can't wait for Spring and some dry sunny weather!

Hope y'all get a break in the weather soon, it's been a long winter.

15. I`m not far from you in a little village south of Hardwick
I just shoveled my way to my birdfeeders....nearly two feet of snow in places with drifts over 3 feet. Compost bin is completely covered and only a couple of feet between my clothesline and the top of the snow.

16. Whoops... I was wondering what happened to the snow I was
expecting yesterday.....Sorry about that.

Seriously - the weather is changing. It used to be easy to predict where the snow was going to land, and when . Now the speeds of the colliding fronts vary so much that they meet up in unexpected places. That stuff in your yard should have been here in mine at the tip of Lake Ontario!

Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 11:51 AM by JuniperLea
And they are spouting off... this is their proof there's no global warming. All the extra precipitation... meaning there's been far more evaporation... but there's no making a horse drink once led to water.

Stay snug!

About the Category 4 rapids coursing down my driveway and the evidence of crocodiles in the basement.

Damn, this has just been one whopper of a winter, and it's not over yet. Who says April is the cruelest month? My money's on March.

I opened the back door (which open in) and managed to get out but the snow is chest deep and I couldn't make it from the back of the house to the front. I'm warm. I have food. I'll figure something out tomorrow.
