1. C-
His cabinet appointments have been real disappointing and he does seem to capitulate to the Republicans too easily without a fight, but he did get some things done like DADT repeal and the stimulus, as weak as it was. He seems pragmatic about things like nuclear power and gun control, charting a careful course, but obviously we all wanted more action on the economy.

Obama had the opportuntity to make history in a huge way. Now he'll just be the black president that was the same as every other politician that sat his rearend in the Oval Office.

12. That's the part that leaves me the saddest.
I didn't want Obama as President and had very low expectations
going in. And yet, I would very much have liked it if he had made
a complete fool of me by vastly exceeding all of my expectations
and ushering in the New American Millenium.

But he didn't.

Instead, in less than two years he utterly destroyed my political
party and dashed the meagre hopes that I had. When I think of
what could have been, I'm greatly saddened.

He has been captured by the lizard people and an implant in his brain makes him their woman.
so he cannot be graded as to his performance.
I say this only half joking, but I do really wonder whether there is a capture of anyone that becomes president and that they have no real power...only that given them by the PTB.

9. "Other - Your own personal grade and why?"
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 06:52 AM by thotzRthingz
I elected to go with "other". As a long-time registered independent, I worked the neighborhood in support of, and voted for Obama... based on his "campaign speeches and interviews".

I thought he was a "Constitutional" scholar (of sorts), and that he would NOT tolerate the things which the previous administration had done... and FWIW, most if not all of them are guilty of war crimes (and I thought that would be addressed as well, by Obama's DoJ). But since Obama took no action against U.S. WAR CRIMINALS, as he was bound to do by his OATH OF OFFICE (and the laws of the U.S.)... he has wholly LOST my support and will NOT get my vote in 2012 (unless he does an about-face post haste)!

Then there's the "wolf in sheep's clothing" side of Obama. He has capitulated to the corporate puppeteers on every issue of importance. Yes, there have been laws enacted (HCR for example)... which are full of loopholes for the people who really run this country (the greed-mongering fascists). Some point to those FAUX accomplishments as a reason to continue supporting their favorite son. NOT ME!

I say... NO COMPROMISE, when it hurts every American... save for the few obscenely wealthy--who CAN NOT be hurt (not even in the least), by changes in laws which might further regulate their activities and tax them more fairly (i.e., heavily). The obscenely wealthy OWN this nation (and much of the world, for that matter)... it's time the American people AWAKEN and elect officials, at every level of government, who are loyal to their constituents (and won't simply change their stripes, once in office).

Ever since he got "shellacked," he seems to be floundering, which I attribute to getting bad advice from his new Chicago advisors. His decisions seem to be all over the map and contradictory like it's government by committee with no consistent philosophy.

Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 09:10 AM by thotzRthingz
You, and others here, are correct (of course). We elected him, and a clear DEM majority in both chambers of Congress in 2008. I worked hard for him, and for the DEM congressional candidates... they replaced the CONS which needed so badly to happen. They had a mandate, from the majority of Americans, to clean-up the mess. And yes, it would not be easy... but they've not improved much of anything (and in some instances they've made matters worse).

I'm tired of voting for the "lesser of two evils" ... and I thought that Obama and the congressional DEMS (that got my sweat, money, unwavering support and vote) really were going to make a difference. I'll NOT be voting for OBAMA in 2012 (and it looks like no republiCON will be getting my vote either).

And to those of you who may try give me the old "well you'll be to blame when the CONS completely take over", I say this:

FIRSTLY: it appears that has already happened.

SECONDLY: in 2008 DEMS were given their chance, they had a clear mandate, they had a clear majority in Congress and a DEM POTUS... if they get the boot they've NO ONE else to blame except themselves!

Edited on Sat Apr-02-11 08:19 AM by thotzRthingz
You, of course, are entitled to your own opinion... but, your opinion is not factual... there's no bias at all in what I posted.

Yes, I realize that some DEMS are essentially CONS (i.e., wolves in sheep's clothing). I had one such experience, after supporting and helping to elect DEMS in 2008... at least a couple of them turned out to be so-called "blue dogs". However; I DID NOT support the congressional "blue dog" (which, in 2008, I helped to oust a sitting-CON) in the 2010 election cycle. I believe in holding my elected reps accountable... I consistently email and call them, when I do not agree with their "legislative voting record".

As I indicated earlier, I am tired of voting for the "lesser of two evils" ... particularly when the ONLY difference between candidates is the "party affiliation" next to their NAME (when they are otherwise essentially TWINS). Do you, or would you, support a "blue dog" just because they have DEM next to their name, when you go to the voting booth?

gets an A+ when measured against the last six U.S. Presidents: Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush.

President Obama is expected to clean up every failure of the past, from deregulation to inequity to war.

If someone gives Obama an F, what grade would they give the above six Presidents?

My, such faint praise use you to damn Obama. He's better than Bush the Frat Boy or Reagan or Bush the Preppy or Carter.

BTW, you left out Jerry Ford. He was the best president in that crowd. He was only president for two and a half years, thus did less damage than those named.

Seriously, I wouldn't give Obama an F. On my worst days I give him a D-. On my best, he gets a C-.

I expected the wars, and related secrecy to continue. I didn't expect so much backpeddling on every issue. It's like he decided to meet the right halfway on the car ride to the negotiations, and half again when he got there.

It's not enough that he gets that trickle down doesn't work, I did that at age 15 in 1980. He actually had a chance to do something about it by doing nothing and letting the Bush tax cuts expire.

He would have been better at vice-president or policy wonk. It's like watching a hapless substitute teacher letting 3 kids disrupt the class.

49. The Left does not care about alternatives.
Edited on Sat Apr-02-11 09:11 AM by bluestate10
They demand what they want and threaten to sit home on election day if they do not get what they want. In my life I have not seen a more determined bent toward self destruction. So if a Bachmann get into the Oval Office, what will the Left do? What the Left will do is claim I am being alarmist. Oh really am I? With Scott Walker and republican majorities in Wisconsin, Kasich and republican majorities in Ohio, Rick Scott and republicans majorities in Florida, I am being alarmist? What the Left has tended to do when their inaction or wasted votes put a beast in office is protest in streets and get hauled off to jail to pay fines and lawyer fees, in a total waste of time and money. The ongoing efforts in Wisconsin stand as exceptions, but with savvy organizations like ActBlue involved, it is not difficult for me to see why.

There's also the issue of how many of these nay sayers EVER did anything substantive for a Democrat, let alone for a Democratic presidential campaign, or for longstanding commitment to any of our issues.

And was all behind the Iraq War disaster. 70% also believed Saddam was behind 9/11. Of course that "connection" was totally non-existent and without evidence. They also voted for Ronald Raygun twice.

The US voting public is dumber than a box of rocks. They are easily manipulated. The US voting public is on the fringe. The rest of us are reality based.

44. We live in a Democracy
The US voting public isn't "on the fringe". They may be wrong, but they are not fringe, by definition.

In Democracies, the leaders are supposed to listen to and reflect the opinions of the public.
And if they don't, they get voted out of office.

The best leaders try to gently tug their constituents in the right direction, without going so
far as to alienate them.

It seems to me that 99% of the complaining about President Obama on this forum comes from
disappointment that he refuses to alienate the public, and refuses to say they're dumber than
a box of rocks. Yet there is little evidence presented that always taking the hard line left
position would actually achieve the goal you desire. There is considerable evidence that it
would be counterproductive.

You want catharsis. You want to argue and feel morally superior. The President wants to persuade.

That's the difference between most DUers and him.

The one thing I would have thought he would fight *for* he fought tooth and nail - repeal of DADT. That was so cut and dried. The rest of it, the rampant kowtowing to corporate interests, well, that's to be expected no matter who is appointed - oops, I mean elected - but I would have thought he would have fought a little harder for the people.

He's basically turned out to be a Republican, and has surrounded himself with Republicans, old Bush appointees and Blue Dogs who are only in it for the top 1%.

He's going to win in 2012, because considering the crowd the Republicans seem to be floating, he's definitely the lesser of two evils. It feels like a game - he supports the corporations, and the corporations in turn help him get re-elected by encouraging absolutely frightening people to run. Newt Gingrich? Michelle Bachmann? Sarah Palin?

How could anyone in good conscience not vote for him and risk one of those whackjobs getting into power? I'm so tired of the only virtue of candidates being "well, I'm not as insane as the other guy".
