NBC Jim Maceda: An UNDER-REPORTING of pro-Gaddafi civilians fighting the Rebels. I WONDER WHY!
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 09:17 AM by Distant Observer
Arwa Damon, CNN, also commented that in one city the "rebels" were shocked that when they called for the people to come out of their houses -- the came out, with knives and pistols and shotguns and chased them out of town.

Now the rebels are being chased from town to town and don't seem to want to risk their lives in a real fight.
They are swearing "where are the air strikes," expecting that the "Coalition" plane will always be above to
kill pro-Gaddafi soldiers for them.

WELL, WHO THE HELL ARE THOSE "REBELS."

HOW MANY ARE REALLY COMMITTED TO FIGHTING FOR THEIR LAND -- even for their base in Cyrenaica?

HOW MUCH OF THE POPULATION DO THEY ACTUALLY REPRESENT????

Jim Maceda's comment that there has been an "UNDER REPORTING" of the fact that the “rebels” are being defeated by armed pro-Gaddafi civilians may be the "UNDER-STATEMENT" of the day.

Looks like Barack/Hillary have taken us back to the days of CONTRA WARS where we arm and promote small minorities to overthrow non-compliant regimes.

Well, it looks like a lot of people are angry enough to go after these rebels with a vengeance -- forget the U.S. warplanes strafing them from above, forget that all command-and-control is destroyed with a billion dollars of Tomahawks and "precision" guided missiles.

These people are willing to die for their country.

1. I think that the situation is historically between tribes.
Maybe a lot of people don't particularly care for Gaddafi personally but he is the leader of their tribe and they will defend him or rather their tribe.

2. Gaddafi's Qaddadfa bedouin are a minor tribe of the Sirte. There are many other tribes
that have long supported Gaddafi's revolution.

5. The pro-Gaddefi's are in Gaddefi"s home town who get more money & goodies
from him than the rest of the Libyans ...so that's a bias comparison. Of course his own tribe will protect their benefactor. Everyone else in the world seems to know Gaddefi is a murderous evil man and needs to disappear.

4. Gaddafi and his ilk is not fighting shit. It's the people who won't take a chance with the "rebels"

7. Many civilians in Libya are saying that. But I think the US should stay out of it.
Of course you are being facetious. No one is advocating "supporting Gaddafi" through military intervention.

8. Just heard Adm Mullen say "major caches" of weapons in the East and rebels are "amply supplied"
I thought these folks were poor "un-armed" protestors and the big debate was how to arm them.

12. Makes one really wonder what's going on...what's the truth?
Do the have/need arms or not? Guess we'll have to wait and see and hold our breath.

11. Unrecommended.
I'm against the latest Middle East war effort, but this is clearly not one of the reasons why.
