Minnesota Republican: ‘I watched Minneapolis get destroyed’ by integration
Source: The Raw Story
By Muriel Kane

As Minnesota's state senate debates a public school funding bill that would remove funding from integration programs in the major cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul and Duluth and shift it to a statewide literacy drive, one freshman Republican has been particularly blunt in his opinions.

“I watched Minneapolis get destroyed,” Sen. Dan Hall stated on Thursday, "so I not only didn’t want my kids in the school system, I took them out of Minneapolis because they ruined our neighborhoods with integration and segregation."

"My best friends are minority, they think integration in foolish," Hall insisted. "It’s a ploy to get more money. ... It’s disrespectful to tell my friends, my minority friends that they can’t make it without extra special help.”

1. He's a Protestant minister?
I had no idea Ian Paisley changed his name to Dan Hall and moved to Minneapolis.

4. I rec. but I am speechless over his ignorance. I would suggest that
he take his kids and move out of the state. Go to some state that thinks more like he does.

6. I have the sad misfortune of living in this clown's district
Edited on Fri Apr-01-11 11:32 PM by dflprincess
MY side of the district voted for the DFL incumbant - it was the fools living in Burnsville that put this guy in the state Senate. Sadly, state races in the 'burbs don't get a lot of media coverage but thanks to Citizens United there were a number of nasty TV ads run against the incumbant who, of course, did not have the resources to run his own TV ads (I don't remember ever seeing ads for the state legislature before this year and the ones I saw were all attacks on DFLers).

If I ever get the chance (though Preacher Hall avoids most public forums) I'll have to ask him how a neighborhood can be ruined by both "with integration and segregation."

BTW - I think he's nearly self ordained, I don't believe he belongs to any organized denomination.

7. Not asking for "extra help"
just the same opportunity. Ever look at the school facilities in predominantly white areas compared to African-American areas. By forcing integration, you ensure the disparity won't be as great.

9. The article mentions that Hall says he graduated from Minneapolis schools
with a 6th grade reading level. Personally, I'm surprised it's that high, but it explains a lot.

Minnesota used to have politicians like Hubert Humphrey who urged us to "walk forthrightly into the bright sunshine of human rights". Now we have assholes like this and Michelle Bachmann.

11. well SOMETHING's got to be at fault
Twintown is a dump. The Mini-apple is nothing if not the pits.

Except for the high bridge. That's pretty cool.

15. I beg to differ
(and apparently you have not seen Target Field if you think the only thing that's cool is the high bridge).

"Preacher" Hall's Senate district is stretched over parts of Bloomington & Burnsville, not Minneapolis. A jerk like this would never get elected in the city - only the 'burbs or outstate could produce something like this (and, btw, he lost in Bloomington - it was Burnsville that put him over the top in the election. Must be something about being south of the Minnesota River).

17. I have not had the misfortune to enter Twintown since 1987 or so
although I did scrape the southside near to my sister's place in 2001. I was gonna take the GRE there in 2000, but thankfully opted for Ames instead.

But that is one of my least favorite aspects of Twintown - the fact that they think they are so much better than the 'burbs or outstate (or neighboring states that I happen to have hailed from). But it was only after I had lived in Iowa for a while that I learned that they were right to tell Iowa jokes. Still, Twintown is just not all that.

But that's me too, I think any city with more than, say 104,083 people is an abomination that causes desolation.

25. Too bad you missed out on my quiet urban village neighborhood
with early 1900s houses, big trees, a little shopping district of locally owned businesses (including four restaurants), and walking distance to two lakes.

12. "my minority friends"
Yeah, I believe he has lots of minority friends. Tons.

I also love this line:

"...I took them out of Minneapolis because they ruined our neighborhoods with integration and segregation".

So both integration and segregation can exist simultaneously?

I'd me more surprised by this, but these are also the people that think Obama is a radical Muslim from a radical Christian church.

21. Sure, but can you imagine your children having to...
...look at black and brown people all day? Having to compete with them?

Keep segregation in place - for the children.

(Do I need the 'sarcasm' thingy?)
