Your greatest chance in the 2012 cycle to effect long term change is not with Obama so much....
..... as it is with the down ballot races such as school board, alderman, city/county council, and the state legislature. These are the people who will see the next state and national leaders grow from their ranks.

If you're inclined to work for someone, this is who to work for. Your impact is more direct and more immediate. You're closer to the source. The satisfaction is higher.

Arguably, the results are more important.

and I intend to see she gets that seat (once held by Ron Klein)...

You would be surprised at how many people run unopposed for a race and the Democrats don't even put a candidate on the ticket.
