Holy Hailstones, Batman!

1. Oh, my!

Even though I lived for 18 years in hailstone country (Kansas), I never actually saw hailstones larger than perhaps a quarter. Sometimes they were ankle deep, but still . . . .

they're the largest I've ever seen in person. MAN, it was loud! :scared:

But did it HAVE to happen just a few months after we re-shingled the house? :shrug: It was already dark, so we'll have to wait until morning to inspect the roof.

5. The worst hailstorm I ever saw was in rural MO.

It hailed for 20 minutes, which in itself is rare. When it stopped raining my sister and I rushed outside to investigate, because from the living room window it looked like it had snowed.

The ground was COVERED in little ice golfballs. Everything not under a shingled roof was broken. And speaking of roofs, the gutters were overflowing. It was a weird day...

2. I've seen bigger

But we only get pea-size hail here at most.

I was outside, under shelter when they started coming down, but I didn't go out to see how big they were. The noise was enough to make me think "Hmmm.. do I want to hear that as it strikes my skull?"

6. One interesting benefit of hailstorms, at least in

the Kansas City area, is the hail damage car sales.

9. IF you buy one. Park it in the sun on a stinking hot day.

Once it's good and hot, put icecubes in the dimples. Pretty good chance the dings will pop out.

10. I must be tired

It took me a moment to figure out why you'd put ice cubes in the dimples of your hailstone and park it in the sun. To each his own, I guess. :D

11. Heat the metal. Apply cold to one side, metal should differentially...

Heat first THEN ice.

I remember watching my uncle "spring" an entire roof this way. Heated the metal to red hot, and threw a bucket of ice water on it. It rang like a bell and the dent was gone.

8. Thank goodness ours was not that large tonight

but it was ping pong ball sized pushed by an 80 MPH wind (that is what they say, it sure sounded like it) that ended up covering part of my deck and making it look like snow all over the yard.

That must have caused some real big damage.
