The Right Wing attack on the middle class: cheap vacations must end!

Vacations, it seems, even cheap ones, should not be something the middle class should get.

As we fight our right wing govt. here there is a similar fight going on in England. Rupert Murdoch has used his massive news system there to overthrow the left of the government and to put into place a government that is just as bad, if not worse, than the right wingers we have in power here.

One of the heads of the government told the mayor of london that: he did not want "more families in Sheffield able to afford cheap holidays".

The current govt. is the bastard child of ron reagan and margaret thatcher. The only difference is that Rupert Murdoch has, in essence, gone on such an attack against the left that they have been overthrown by militant right wingers.

That is why, last weekend, half a million people were protesting in the streets of london.

1. Yes only the Aristocrats should be able to go to the beach

Cheap vacations for the middle class here in the US and I am sure in England have meant some very wealthy people in the vacation spots have gotten even wealthier. And some people have made a modest living off tourist.

These fuckers don't get a simple economics fact, it takes people to make it go and grow.

of thinking. A strong middle class in ANY country means a strong tourist industry everywhere. That, and of course, peace on earth, so that everywhere is safe to travel.

That's kind of my "index of world peace", really.

If you watch those YouTube videos of that guy who did the "dancing around the world" thing a while back, it is interesting to figure out which ones on the list he would or would not be dancing in right now.

One thing the internet has enabled are more people-to-people travel experiences like couch surfing and connecting with owners of individual rental properties in a way that you couldn't even get through a travel agent years ago.

Time was that if you were planning a vacation to destination X, then you'd only hookup with the company that ran the big resort property in X. Now, you can find the guy that has a single apartment or home there. My business takes me to a lot of weird places, and being able to find a mountainside two bedroom villa with a beach view in South America for under $100 a night to someone who really valued $100 was a much better feeling than going with the BigChain Resort Hotel that charged $500 with most of that money going to BigChain corporate offices in New York.

It's doubly important to remember to "buy locally", even when traveling. It turns out that your dollar can go farther and leave a better social footprint.

4. The Youtube dancing guy travelled to all of those Countries (initially) on a

computer programmer's salary. He was an American working in Australia. I don't know about all Aussies, but my friend in Melbourne gets three months of paid vacation a year (he's been with his company for over ten years and is a chief engineer).

6. You get YOUR vacation by working at the resorts when the wealthy vacation

You can enjoy the beach as you stroll down to deliver drinks.

Enjoy the music in the lobby as you inform the clientele that their room is prepared.

The spacious and well-appointed rooms will be a joy to walk around in as you deliver the luggage.

Don't forget the incredible views you'll have at the infinity pool as you serve a mid-afternoon snack.
