Repukes to cut $4 Trill by cutting Medicare and Medicaid

April 4 (Bloomberg) -- House Republicans will propose major changes to the Medicare and Medicaid health-care programs as part of their first budget since the November election, a plan sure to inflame Washington’s battles over the deficit.

Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan plans to release a 2012 proposal tomorrow that he said will call for more than $4 trillion in spending cuts over the next 10 years and begin an overhaul of the tax code.

“This is a serious proposal,” Representative Tom Cole, an Oklahoma Republican on the Budget Committee, said in an interview. “We’re headed towards a big debate.”

1. Not to worry, it is not going to happen.
There is a budget battle each year and the Republicans may not be in power much longer.

7. They are going to also need to propose
changing the filial responsibility exception in Medicaid (probably will also apply to Medicare). Right now states cannot enact or enforce their filial responsibility laws if they take Medicaid dollars (filial responsibility - children and grandchildren paying a portion of the elderly's long term care). Wait until middle class voters realize they are going to have to cover grandmas stay in a nursing home.

Folks should ask about these laws everytime these changes are proposed.

9. Meanwhile: Congress members get free medical care for life.

And poor people who get sick are supposed to die
because they have outlived their usefullness.
