Great - now the House GOP embraces Ryan's economic plans - including a complete phaseout of Medicare
in 10 years. This from the anti any corp regulation gang. Are they serious? This would mean that the only people who can get medical care that won't bankrupt them will be those who can absorb huge bills (for all the "preexisting conditions" that aren't covered.) Add to this the very public work to strip unions of collective bargaining (wages and conditions), the efforts to curtail social security (better start find a way to earn and save an extra 10-20K for retirement a year) and it really does appear that the end goals of these efforts has nothing to do with serving the public, unless serving the public = putting more and more of the public into servitude.
4. I don't know - they have become incredibly arrogant that the gen public
won't recognize what their policies actually mean to daily life. They are incredibly (and unbelievably) emboldened in their anti-public/citizens agenda.
6. I hope the blowback happens before any of such policies are forced into reality. Agree
that it is the propaganda campaign that even allows such discussions to go forward while promoting more tax cuts at the highest levels and while the reality of big corps paying NO taxes hits the public awareness.
7. I bet there are major corporations that will be against this
Many of the big corporations gave lifetime medical benefits to retirees. At least with AT&T, as soon as you are eligible for Medicare, the Medicare policy becomes the primary and the AT&T plan becomes secondary. I would bet this could really change the expected costs of that benefit.
10. In this day and atmosphere - i doubt that they care - do you doubt that they would
just cancel their "obligation" in a heart beat? That has been the past decades approach to many pension and retirement health care (supplemental) plans.
I think we have entered a surreal phase - where corps feel emboldened to just cut off - and ideological conservatives don't give a damn about the real policy realities of their policies (just just giving the rich donors more Money).
Notice that few in the public conversation are even talking about what this reality would be for citizens - that we have to find a way to earn 10-20K more (3rd, 4th jobs?) that are saved to afford retirement - or that we will have many generations of institutionally impoverished seniors (burden falling on younger families). Surreal.
