I know it's Rasmussen but.... 48% Say Their Views Closer to Tea Party Than Congress

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

In the ongoing budget-cutting debate in Washington, some congressional Democrats have accused their Republican opponents of being held captive by the Tea Party movement, but voters like the Tea Party more than Congress.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters say when it comes to the major issues facing the country, their views are closer to the average Tea Party member as opposed to the average member of Congress. Just 22% say their views are closest to those of the average congressman. Even more (30%) aren’t sure.

<snip>

Forty-nine percent (49%) of voters think the Tea Party movement is good for the country, consistent with findings since May 2010. Twenty-six percent (26%) disagree and say the grassroots, small government movement is bad for America. Sixteen percent (16%) say neither.

Forty-five percent (45%) say the average Tea Party member has a better understanding of the problems America faces today than the average member of Congress does. That figure is down seven points from a year ago. Still, today only 31% think the average member of Congress has a better understanding. Twenty-three percent (23%) are undecided.

4. Unfortunately, because of the favorable propaganda the MSM has thrown at the tea party movement
accounts for this

The tea baggers come from the same philosophy as those who supported george wallace in 1968, only then the media did NOT present racism in a favorable light

6. My validity test involves comparing the crowd size of Tea Party rallies
to those we've been seeing in Wisconsin and other states where the Reupke legislators are attempting to deny rights to anyone that's not a corporation.

8. That badly done poll also claims that 44% of Republicans say they are "members of the Tea Party,"

which can't be correct, or you'd see a much larger turnout for Tea Party events.

I'd love to see the full demographic breakdown of the poll, but I'm not willing to pay Rasmussen for it.

The recent CNN poll showed much less support for the Tea Party overall:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4793410

And I included the demographic breakdown from the CNN poll there.

CNN found only about half as much support for the Tea Party among independents as Rasmussen found. CNN found that only 31% of independents gave the Tea Party a favorable rating.

Rasmussen somehow found 54% of independents saying the Tea Party is good for the country, and 62% of independents saying their views on major issues are close to the Tea Party.

Of course, Rasmussen has been promoting the Tea Party heavily since 2009. This poll is apparently their response to the CNN poll.

11. What crap. The "Tea Party" isn't even a real political party.
It's a lunatic subset of the GOP. It's time for them to grow up and become a real party. Let's see how popular they are when they're forced to run a candidate against a Democrat and a Republican.

15. well likely voters as determined by one polling firm.
I believe like 4/5 Americans want to increase taxes on the rich. Which apparently isn't reflected in how this company picks its likely voters.

17. Rasmussen are flat out liars.
Yes they actually LIE, and trumpet the results of fake polls, or polls they never even did. They are not a polling firm, they are a propaganda outfit.
