The ladies of the view are all relieved that KSM's trial won't be held in NYC
Whoopi, Joy, and Barbara who usually voice the democratic view on The View stated today on the show (4/5) that they were relieved that Khalid Sheik Mohammed will not be tried in NY. They were worried about the platform he would have had for 2 years, and the feelings of the 911 families. He would also have had access to appeals which would have dragged the case on even more. The 911 families deserve justice, not an ongoing farce. I agree with them and I think they speak for a lot of New Yorkers and Americans.

2. Whoopi "It wasn't rape-rape" Goldberg? Who cares what she thinks about anything?
I tend to not value the opinion of child rape apologists.

6. You're missing the point, which is that many democrats in NY do not want the trials
in New York.

8. A trial in New York would have created a circus-like atmosphere...
And I agree with the administration's decision to try KSM in a military tribunal in Guantanamo instead. However, I will always remind people of Whoopi's whitewashing of child rape in the Polanski case.

13. so, by your logic, let's just suspend laws when we feel like it
That's the essence of your argument. If any criminal can't be tried fairly within the parameters of the justice system then let's just scrap the whole thing. Or, do you feel that a convenience store robber and someone accused of criminal acts against the United States aren't the same?

9. They torture, we torture
They have kangaroo courts, we have kangaroo courts (and please, no lectures on military tribunals and their peculiar brand of justice). They blow up innocent civilians, we blow up innocent civilians.

Remind me again how it is that we're so different and better than the terrorists? I think our system is not only preferable to one run by madmen cloaking themselves in religious language, I think it's more durable. It can withstand the rigors of its own enumerated rights. Because if our Constitution doesn't apply to Khalid Sheik Mohammed today, it may be deemend to not apply to you or me tomorrow. I want him tried in open court, with the very best defense counsel that can be found.

If the United States has fucked up by torturing him and coercing statements and violating his rights, then let him go. That's OUR fault. On the other hand, if there have been no irregularities, let Mr. Mohammed be fairly tried and if the evidence is sufficient, convicted. What better witness would we have to the world than by adhering to our own principles, even in the face of terrorism? If our principles are that fungible, that we'll jettison them as soon as we're scared enough, then we don't really have those principles after all. We've compromised our moral standing enough in the last 10 years. It's time to act like grown-ups again, and get over being so pants-wetting scared.

10. Try him in the US. So what if he appeals. He'll be in prison waiting for the appeal.
If you don't want it in NYC, move it to a different venue.

16. Oh well, then let's just skip the trial and take him out and hang him.
Where they want it doesn't matter. The LAW is what matters.

18. Hell yes, force them to have it.
They want the protection of the law, they take what goes with that. I don't think most people - especially New Yorkers -- are as chickenshit as the ladies of The View.

Where in the fuck did Americans' SPINES go????

Fuck it, take him out and hang him. Shoot him. So what. No biggie. We lost America years ago. Fuck it.

20. Ummm ... in a word, no.
He would/should be tried in federal court for federal crimes. Federal courts are located in every state in the Union. There are very specific rules governing jurisdiction and venue -- which in this case point to New York or maybe PA or DC. They don't violate the Constitution, unless you can come up with a specific article/section that it violates.

Oh, but we don't WANT a trial here!!! We're scared!!!

We've turned into a nation of pussies and chickenshits. Fuck it. Let's hang him and get it over with. I don't give a shit any more.

It's been the established law of federal courts at least as far back as when I went to law school 18 yrs ago.

11. Well
Why don't we try everyone In Military court If it Is so great? Or better yet why not stop trials all together and just execute
people?

As long as shit like this happens the US has no business lecturing about Civil Rights.

Military courts are not justice. They can be kangaroo courts.
