25. All over the place.

The hypocrisy is everywhere. A lot of people have chosen to be blind to the truth that too many things which are ILLEGAL, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, IMMORAL, and CORRUPT are still going strong under a Democratic President.

When ANY of us turn a blind eye to such things, things which we FUCKING KNOW are wrong, just because our guy is pulling the strings, it demonstrates one of two things:

1 -- Either there is a level of hypocrisy operating that is comparable to EVERYTHING we derided Republicans and Freepers and Tea Baggers for, or
2 -- I am missing, as I suspect many others are missing, some vital piece of information that makes it wrong when a Republican does it, but acceptable when a Democrat does it.

So - just trying to figure out which one it is, because if it is the hypocrisy thing, then we need to have a serious face-to-face conversation with ourselves, and decide if we want to keep lying to ourselves, or if we want to figure out what is going wrong that allows us to accept our own hypocrisy while condemning the same thing in others.

How can anyone take us seriously, if we are hypocritically calling out others for their hypocrisy?

So please - if you have that missing info I requested above, I would love to have it.

18. Sorry, keep forgetting to change that
I shut the site down - my web host Lunar Pages had me stacked on a server with like 220 other sites - well, someone let their security slip and the whole server got hacked. When LP went to fix the problem, everything in a public_html folder on the server was irretrievably deleted by some hapless LP technician. Oops! Since much of what was on the site was not backed up (posts, images, etc.) and the software I was using was mostly patched together because I am clueless about software, I had no real hope of reconstituting the site. So it is now gone...

and we go back to the Pre-1965 (or potentially pre-1933) safety net for the poor.

One thing is certain: eventually, you will figure it out. Reality hitting you smack in the face (in a way you will never forget) has a tendency to do that. The only question is how much damage strategies like yours do to yourself and the country BEFORE you figure it out.

31. Elizabeth Warren
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 08:02 PM by BzaDem
When he realized she couldn't get confirmed, he told Congress to shove it and put her in that position by executive order.

I don't mean to sound like there aren't many (if not most) times he has made decisions that hurt various business interests. But I have seen most of these decisions spun by people on DU, using obvious sophistry to pretend they actually help the business interests they hurt.

The reason I mention the Elizabeth Warren decision in particular is because I have yet to see someone even attempt to spin that decision using sophistry as one to help business interests. Will you be the first?

The country will likely be screwed for a decade or two. The only silver lining is that you would never make the same mistake again, so perhaps when the same battle is fought in a few decades, you'll make the rational decision. Humans have evolved to not be perpetually irrational -- the devastating consequences of one's actions are usually enough to change behavior.

19. A very good question that my 4-year-old granddaughter knows to ask
but politically-indoctrinated adults seem to forget. They can tell you the who, what, where, when and how, but the why eludes them.

The answer is: If you don't care whether your door is being kicked down by someone's Right or Left boot, it doesn't really matter which party you vote for, as long as you vote for one of them.

34. Hey - Remember when Repubs impeached Clinton for a BJ?
Mr. Obama is COMMITTING WAR CRIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, just like Bush did.

Do you truly, honestly believe, that Republicans will stop for ONE FUCKING SECOND to start an impeachment inquiry on Obama for breaking the fucking law as soon as his hand falls from the bible during the swearing-in ceremony?

If we can't get this guy righteous, if we can't hold him to LEGAL STANDARDS, we are no better than a bunch of drunk cheerleaders.

So - keep denying that we have some serious STRATEGIC PROBLEMS with our President's current performance - yeah, and shoot the messenger - that always stops the bad stuff from happening.

Am I wrong? You believe Republicans don't have contingency plans? Seems like the plans they have been following are working awfully well for them, because if you haven't noticed, they've been KICKING Our ASSES for more than a DECADE!!!!!

So - anyone want to think - or is emotive just too fun?

44. I've been thinking about this too. Which is more dangerous for the Country; a repug, or
a Democrat who behaves like a repug by advancing GOP ideas and legislation? Our first instinct would be to say "why a republican, of course! They don't even try to hide the fact that they're corrupt and evil anymore!" and it's true that they push for truly vile and evil legislation loudly and openly. But when they do so, OUR base, and a few Democratic representatives, PUSH BACK against them as we've seen in Wisconsin and elsewhere. In contrast, a Democrat who privately supports the GOP agenda and eagerly advances it by offering "compromises" before they are even requested is opposed by no one except a few members of the marginalized "fringe". So a well liked Democrat would have a far easier time of, say, making huge cuts to Social Security and Medicare or getting us into a new war because members of their own party don't want to "weaken the brand" or break ranks by publicly opposing them. They end up with no serious opposition at all, which emboldens them to take their agenda further and further to the right and pass more harmful bills and tax breaks for the uber rich than the GOP could without sparking an uprising.
