I used to think that we would be in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and Libya forever. I thought the only way out was to admit defeat and cut and run.
Now I think I know how the war will end.
First, I believe in collective security - the more of the world's population that is free from violence, the better.
This idea will be central in ending the wars.
I think eventually left wing pacifists and right wing hawks will come together and realize that people do not like having their families killed by dropping bombs. This is not security.
Lefties will want security through collective agreement. Righties will want their quality of life restored and to limit wasteful foreign spending.
Eventually we all will get tired of seeing our communities collapse and taxes rise. We will tire of providing universal health care for all Libyans while we cannot pay our medical co-payments. We will prefer to shut down wasteful empire building boondoggles, and will focus our tax money on building our communities and collective security issues.
Their will be a balance between helping the world - creating a more secure global community, and taking care of the domestic American front.
I think we are almost there. I think that the world deserves a police man to police it - I just don't think that security can be achieved through my tax dollars and the barrel of a gun. As soon as Americans demand end of our empire, we will be able to rebuild our society and increase global security. We are not there yet, but I think we are almost there.
