Texas House passes budget forcing public universities to advocate heterosexual "traditional values"
Texas House budget requires public colleges to advocate heterosexuality

The Texas House approved a budget Sunday that includes a provision requires public colleges and universities with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) resource centers to spend an equal amount of state funds promoting "family and traditional values."

Republican Rep. Wayne Christian's budget amendment was approved 110 to 24 by the Texas House late Friday, The Dallas Morning News reported. The budget bill is headed to the state Senate after the House passed it on Sunday.

(snip)

According to his amendment, the colleges and universities would have to match every dollar spent on LGBT resource centers with advocating heterosexual, "traditional values."

"If they’re going to pay for one, they need to balance it with the other," Christian said.

Are you fucking kidding me?! This is just flat-out insane. What's next? The requirement that every public college with a women's rights-focused student group must spend an equal amount of money advocating Biblical wife-beating?!

1. Equal funding for alchemy and chemistry!
Equal funding for astrology and astronomy!

It's only fair...

2. What happens if they refuse?
Do they come in and arrest the entire university?

4. My guess is that they'd eliminate an amount of funding
from the university's budget equivalent to whatever they paid to support the GLBT student group.

At which point I'd hope that the university would pull a small amount of money from ALL the other groups and keep right on funding it. Or they could pull a reverse on the state and say that if GLBT can't be funded without also encouraging bigotry, then NO student group (including Campus Crusade, etc.) gets any funding or support from the school. The 'Pukes pull that one all the time in order to smother high school GSA's. It would serve them right to get it shoved right back into their faces.

3. If stupidity were gold, Texas would be running a
100 billion dollar surplus.
