Fisher Goes Too Far: Blog Post Changed to Remove "Rut Like Rabbits" Comment

Yesterday, we noted that the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer had posted a piece on the AFA blog asserting that welfare needed to be ended because all it did was give money to African Americans who "rut like rabbits":

Welfare has destroyed the African-American family by telling young black women that husbands and fathers are unnecessary and obsolete. Welfare has subsidized illegitimacy by offering financial rewards to women who have more children out of wedlock. We have incentivized fornication rather than marriage, and it’s no wonder we are now awash in the disastrous social consequences of people who rut like rabbits.

But sometime after the post went up, the AFA changed the paragraph and removed the "rut like rabbits" statement while adding language to make it appear that Fischer wasn't singling out African Americans. The paragraph now reads:

Welfare has destroyed the African-American family by telling young black women that husbands and fathers are unnecessary and obsolete. Welfare has subsidized illegitimacy by offering financial rewards to women who have more children out of wedlock. We have incentivized fornication rather than marriage, and it’s no wonder we are now awash in the disastrous social consequences of those who engage in random and reckless promiscuity, whether they are Caucasian, Hispanic, or African-American.

Suspecting that this might happen, we saved a copy of the original webpage so that the AFA could not succeed in scrubbing Fischer's statement:

Same old sanctimonious drivel from Bryan Fischer. Religion and politics must never mix.It's a deadly combination. What about separation of church and state? Without that, a nation is doomed to theocracy. Look at Iran and Saudi Arabia.There's absolutely no separation of misque and state there. Clearly it's a better idea to make sure poor women can never afford to leave an abusive spouse and raise children to see that abuse is just fine. Btw, more white people are on welfare, which is very temporary now, than any other group. The food stamp rate is up right now because of our economic troubles caused by the financial industry. Have a good day.

OMG Why didn't someone tell me you guys won the war?! Kudos Poverty! You won!I was rooting for you all along because Now that we all know what a hopeless cause the war on poverty has been, we can CUT CUT CUT! Goodbye school lunches, Head Start, Social Safety Nets, failing Public schools, and Medicaid. We might as well raise taxes on the impoverished, and bulldoze their schools as we know they'll never get out of Poverty anyways! Poverty you won! Congrats!

Republicans don't like taxes. If Jesus ever did say anything about taxes (if only he did so we would know if Jesus thinks we should to pay them), Jesus would surely have said paying taxes is bad, just like Republicans say. But Jesus said NOTHING about paying taxes. Ever. Right?

They want to free their constituents to engage in the God-given right to the “pursuit of happiness” without bureaucrats defining happiness for them. This is public service in the spirit of Christ." I assume then that the author supports gay marriage, a woman's right to choose, and is against the War on Drugs.

What Jesus are you talking about Mr. Fischer? The Jesus I know, would want us to feed the poor and heal the sick. You need to turn in your copy of the Bible for one that doesn't tell you to turn your back on those that need help. You would have never been chosen to be a member of the chosen 12. But you would have made a great Roman judge.

That's funny, Bryan, considering none of the apostles ever went into politics. They kind of focused on what Jesus really meant and that was going out and saving people to Christianity. Your theories are offensive the way you "interpret" Jesus. Leave the Bible to real, licensed ministers, thank you.

You make Jesus sound like an Amway salesman. This BS has been done before, such as in Bruce Barton's The Man Nobody Knows (1925). You can't make Jesus and his disciples into figures whom they railed against.

$16 Trillion? Do you have a source for that number? Or were you referring to the $14 Trillion dollar deficit we now have as a result of tax breaks for the wealthiest americans, two wars, bailouts, and the stimulus program launched in reaction to the recession caused by the aforementioned acts that created the greatest amount of poverty in terms of numbers of people and overall spending ability of the average citizen?
