Fisher Goes Too Far: Blog Post Changed to Remove "Rut Like Rabbits" Comment
Submitted by Kyle on April 6, 2011 - 6:43am

Yesterday, we noted that the American Family Association's Bryan Fischer had posted a piece on the AFA blog asserting that welfare needed to be ended because all it did was give money to African Americans who "rut like rabbits":

Welfare has destroyed the African-American family by telling young black women that husbands and fathers are unnecessary and obsolete. Welfare has subsidized illegitimacy by offering financial rewards to women who have more children out of wedlock. We have incentivized fornication rather than marriage, and it’s no wonder we are now awash in the disastrous social consequences of people who rut like rabbits.

But sometime after the post went up, the AFA changed the paragraph and removed the "rut like rabbits" statement while adding language to make it appear that Fischer wasn't singling out African Americans. The paragraph now reads:

Welfare has destroyed the African-American family by telling young black women that husbands and fathers are unnecessary and obsolete. Welfare has subsidized illegitimacy by offering financial rewards to women who have more children out of wedlock. We have incentivized fornication rather than marriage, and it’s no wonder we are now awash in the disastrous social consequences of those who engage in random and reckless promiscuity, whether they are Caucasian, Hispanic, or African-American.

Suspecting that this might happen, we saved a copy of the original webpage so that the AFA could not succeed in scrubbing Fischer's statement:

or below if you don't want to sully your PC by going there.

Same old sanctimonious drivel from Bryan Fischer. Religion and politics must never mix. It's a deadly combination. What about separation of church and state? Without that, a nation is doomed to theocracy. Look at Iran and Saudi Arabia. There's absolutely no separation of misque and state there. Pure Islamic theocracy. We don't want pure evangelical theocracy in America.

I'm sick and tired of hearing lies about "welfare queens". Why don't you quit complaining about other people and do some good?
4/6/2011 7:52:28 AM
"During the Last Supper, Jesus said to his chosen 12 (11 if you subtract Judas from the mix), “I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel” (Luke 22:29).” Now I don’t have a trained eye, but sitting on a throne is a political thing no matter how you slice it. In other words, Jesus’ entire discipleship program with his apostles was an academy designed to prepare them for service in the political arena. So Christians just need to get over this debate about whether or not Christians ought to be involved in politics. Jesus has settled this question for us himself. "

"Some - perhaps most - pursue public office because they want to control other people... they believe they should make lifestyle choices for other people..." Oh, you mean they do things like tell others who they can marry and what they can do with their bodies? Boy, I hate those kind of people, don't you?
4/5/2011 7:34:10 PM
"Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me." Who was it that said that again?
4/5/2011 6:38:54 PM
Clearly it's a better idea to make sure poor women can never afford to leave an abusive spouse and raise children to see that abuse is just fine. Btw, more white people are on welfare, which is very temporary now, than any other group. The food stamp rate is up right now because of our economic troubles caused by the financial industry. Have a good day.

Jesus would be run out of town by the Republicans as a filthy socialist!
4/5/2011 5:51:40 PM
What we have now are Christians in Name only/ country club Christians on both sides of the aisle. We need to raise up servants
4/5/2011 5:44:42 PM
OMG Why didn't someone tell me you guys won the war?! Kudos Poverty! You won!I was rooting for you all along because Now that we all know what a hopeless cause the war on poverty has been, we can CUT CUT CUT! Goodbye school lunches, Head Start, Social Safety Nets, failing Public schools, and Medicaid. We might as well raise taxes on the impoverished, and bulldoze their schools as we know they'll never get out of Poverty anyways! Poverty you won! Congrats!
4/5/2011 5:37:56 PM
Republicans don't like taxes. If Jesus ever did say anything about taxes (if only he did so we would know if Jesus thinks we should to pay them), Jesus would surely have said paying taxes is bad, just like Republicans say. But Jesus said NOTHING about paying taxes. Ever. Right?
4/5/2011 4:42:42 PM
"Others - sadly, the great minority - pursue public office because they want to liberate people rather than control them. They want people free to make choices that affect their own lives without the interference of the overreaching hand of government. They want to free their constituents to engage in the God-given right to the “pursuit of happiness” without bureaucrats defining happiness for them. This is public service in the spirit of Christ." I assume then that the author supports gay marriage, a woman's right to choose, and is against the War on Drugs.
4/5/2011 4:39:00 PM
What Jesus are you talking about Mr. Fischer? The Jesus I know, would want us to feed the poor and heal the sick. You need to turn in your copy of the Bible for one that doesn't tell you to turn your back on those that need help. You would have never been chosen to be a member of the chosen 12. But you would have made a great Roman judge.
4/5/2011 4:31:00 PM
Sir, if Jesus Christ ran this country, we'd be a welfare state front to back.
4/5/2011 4:27:38 PM
Render unto Caesar and all that after all.
4/5/2011 4:01:59 PM
"People pursue public office for one of two reasons"... Oh, OK, here's mine... "People use false dichotomies for one of two reasons... either they're not very smart, or they're trying to pull the wool over your eyes."
4/5/2011 3:49:53 PM
Dude, you can't even interpret the constitution in a way that doesn't help rich people steal money from the grandmothers of this country. You think I'm going to lend any credence to what you have to say about the words of Christ, you are sorely mistaken. No one believes you, the only people who say they believe you, are hypocrites and cronies. You're subversion of the text of the bible to suit the needs of a bunch of billionaires is transparently ridicuous and I hope you have to answer for it to your maker one day.
4/5/2011 3:45:12 PM
That's funny, Bryan, considering none of the apostles ever went into politics. They kind of focused on what Jesus really meant and that was going out and saving people to Christianity. Your theories are offensive the way you "interpret" Jesus. Leave the Bible to real, licensed ministers, thank you.
4/5/2011 3:41:07 PM
This is kinda funny. The part where someone is actually walking on earth who thinks these thoughts then types them using words.
4/5/2011 3:36:38 PM
"Christianistan" Wow, that is fantastic. THANK YOU!
4/5/2011 3:32:10 PM
You make Jesus sound like an Amway salesman. This BS has been done before, such as in Bruce Barton's The Man Nobody Knows (1925). You can't make Jesus and his disciples into figures whom they railed against.
4/5/2011 3:03:21 PM
"And Jesus said unto them, 'Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." Mark 12:17 That, Mr. Fischer, was a call for the separation of church and state. Christ thought a LOT more like Karl Marx than you would prefer to believe.
4/5/2011 2:59:20 PM
Apparently Mr Bryan Fischer hasn't read the parts of the Bible where a camel has a better chance of going through the eye of a needle than a rich man getting into heaven. And I won't even bring up the story of Lazarus and the rich man!
4/5/2011 2:12:30 PM
"Bottom line: we need more people in public office who think like Christ . . . " I am in total agreement. We need more people in public office who care about the needy and help their fellow human beings regardless of race, gender, or nationality.
4/5/2011 1:31:23 PM
You make some good points here, Bryan. But it seems to me that it is the AFA that wants to "make lifestyle choices for other people," rather than "want people free to make choices that affect their own lives without the interference of the overreaching hand of government." Are you saying that the AFA is on the wrong side?
4/5/2011 12:47:43 PM
This man's views are an insult to humanity.
4/5/2011 12:23:34 PM
No. The majority of Americans do not want this country to turn into "Christianistan."
4/5/2011 12:21:31 PM
I think Judas would be perfect for the office of Governor of Wisconsin
4/5/2011 11:42:32 AM
$16 Trillion? Do you have a source for that number? Or were you referring to the $14 Trillion dollar deficit we now have as a result of tax breaks for the wealthiest americans, two wars, bailouts, and the stimulus program launched in reaction to the recession caused by the aforementioned acts that created the greatest amount of poverty in terms of numbers of people and overall spending ability of the average citizen?
4/5/2011 10:54:42 AM
How many strawmen can be counted, how many lies through statistics? This is just another ridiculous blathering by Fischer trying to justify his personal desire to see people under the fist of christianists.
