Deep red rural Texas is getting an Eco-Theme Park! EarthQuest Adventures!
I can just imagine the heads popping about this! LOL

The EarthQuest Institute is the fundamental heart of the EarthQuest Resort. It is a Not-For-Profit, scientific center for research and dissemination of information regarding our planet and the ways in which we can act to help provide the best possibilities for sustainable lifestyles. It is intended as a flagship LEED Platinum Certified building to demonstrate environmental sensitivity and best practices with respect to development. The core concept of the EarthQuest Institute is a quest for knowledge and an invitation to participate in the restoration and maintenance of the intricate web of life on Earth through ecology and evolution.

From the perspective of visitors to the Institute, guests will be able to participate in many interactive and hands-on activities that will help them understand the value of our natural resources, show cause and effect relationships and offer positive approaches to preserving many aspects of nature that we so deeply value.

1. That is not "deep red rural Texas" - it is the northern suburbs of Houston. nt

4. I live in the Houston area. New Caney is farther than a suburb.

You don't have to go far outside of Houston to be in the country. It's about 15-20 minutes north-east from North Sam Houston Tollway. That's far enough around here to be in a rural area.

10. So do I --
but south of the city. It is "rural" south of Pearland too, but it is not the same kind of rural as west texas. I'm sure they are aiming for guests from the Woodlands/Spring, but will also pull from the rest of the Houston area. I'm actually surprised we don't have more theme parks/attractions here given the population. I know they have been trying to unload the Astrodome for that sort of thing for a long time.

At any rate, good to hear there will be more jobs in an area that needs them - that is a good thing.

6. Actually, it is deeply red.
It will be in New Caney, TX, which is about 15-20 miles from Houston city limits. This is "Ted Poe" country. He's my rep. too :puke:

The good news is that people are excited about this and it is welcomed. Perhaps for the jobs?
:hi:

7. Yes, it will mean lots of jobs for an area that doesn't have much!
This is very good news for the area, and I can't wait to check it out myself!

2. Maybe this is the way to get through to the red necks
because school obviously doesn't work, but if we ingrain learning and fun just maybe we can start changing some minds.

9. EXACTLY! That's why I love this idea so much!
The Children's Museum in Houston is pretty cool, and it combines science/learning and fun things. This is the concept on a much grander scale.

5. Nope - it's about environmentalism and even includes a research center.
