President Obama’s top 5 broken campaign promises

President Barack Obama came to office on a tide of voters eager to see a change in more than just the White House's occupant. Two years into his presidency -- and one day after he launched his 2012 reelection campaign -- and even some of his most ardent supporters are having trouble coming to terms with the answer to Sarah Palin's 2010 question: "How's that hopey, changey stuff working out?"

Polls show that less than half the country believes President Obama deserves reelection, with disaffected liberals now a fast growing demographic.

Even though Obama clearly leads all of the likely Republican front-runners at this point, the deep dissatisfaction brewing within his core constituency could make the president, and his whole party, uniquely vulnerable in next year's elections.

Below are five of the biggest campaign pledges Obama failed to keep -- for which he'll likely have to answer before election day 2012.

Scott Walker gave the labor movement more help than we could have dreamed of.

Obama showing up would have possibly back-fired. It's OK for him to have kept his powder dry on that front.

Maybe that new state Supreme Court justice will do some good, and maybe she won't. Walker is still winning.

It's not at all clear to me that one-term Walker is winning. Yesterday's election is but one indication.

Labor would have been re-energized 18 months ago. It would have meant a lot. Instead, it's the same old lip service every time the campaign ramps up and needs cash and staffing.

12. See... That's The Problem...

We were never assured (post 2008 Election) as to which side Obama stood (well... we were, but we don't believe him any longer...) and to this day, still do not.

And that's especially so given Bill Clinton's introduction of him at the 2004 DNC. He gave a rousing speech to nationally launch the guy who'd become his wife's major opponent.

6. Although still an Obama supporter, I agree with these with the exceptions of

Gtmo and marching w/the protestors.

He signed an order to close Gtmo, not his fault he was blocked in his attempt.

And once you're POTUS, there's a whole load of things you can't do, like get involved with States' actions and just mingle with the people like a regular citizen. I think if he was still candidate Obama, he'd have been there. He came out and said it was union busting, and I believe he does support unions and workers' rights.

11. Re-negotiation of NAFTA? That promise seems to have gone down the memory hole.

On tax and trade his words in 2008 seem less like broken promises and more like outright deception.

23. I would add that he promised to defend the Constitution,

but he now shreds our Fourth Amendment by supporting the lining up of Americans not accused of any crime for crotch groping and naked scans.

He promised that the "Affordable Care Act" would actually make health care affordable while knowing full well that it contained no serious cost control measures and that it would mandate Americans to purchase a product they could not afford to use.

He led all of us to believe that the public option was still on the table even after he had already struck a deal with the health insurance companies.

The article does not mention Congress' role in Guantanamo still being open. I wonder why this is. Seems fishy. I feel like Stephen C. Webster is trying to fool me with poor information.
