the labour, health care, public education environment of the countries they shared with the corporations. It would mean many fewer people in those countries with a bad labour situation and corporations would have to step up and start paying for infrastructure that they use and such.


Well today we have a situation in reverse where corporations threaten to leave countries if the taxation environment is not to their liking. And citizens end up with the tax bill. It has been this way for 30 years. Nobody calls them out for being 'un-american'. They should surely lose 'goodwill' for threatening the nations they are in.

It used to be that business tried to influence the fiscal policies of countries because that affected their bottom line and governments wanted a good environment for job creation and such. It used to be that people could change governments to be more to their liking through democracy. But corporations have done an end run around that by changing the social policies of the countries they inhabit..so they get the governments they want this way by changing not just the country but the very citizens. 10,000 years of civilization and the march towards just societies is stopped so that corporations do not have to pay taxes where they do business. This is dehumanizing. Our lives are diminished a great deal by turning the clock back on social issues.

Corporations just need to face the same tax burden in every country in the world and they will do fine. Doesn't matter if the taxes are 40%. But they will still be able to compete and make a little wealth for a few people. Meanwhile a greater number of people will have decent jobs and health care. And the vast majority of people will do okay..which is what a just society is about. Sure the business leaders will scream like stuck pigs about having to pay taxes just like they did when the Bush tax cuts were about to expire.

Corporations can freely move, market their goods, and demand "free entry" into markets under the terms of "free trade" agreements.
They have even challenged countries public heatlh laws (such as those limiting tobacco products) as "unfair trade practices."
But labor is constrained by national boundaries, is thus not free to seek its best interests elsewhere.

I think we (in Canada and the rest of the West) left the USA alone to fight communism and so we are left with an America today which must be in opposition of 'something' and it is now easy for the GOP to exploit that and put liberals in that hate spot.

13. I was doing genealogy and came across a letter from an American

with the same family name (though he was not related to us). He wrote to one of my family in the 1950s and said..."we need to stick together to fight communism". This man was at war. In Canada..not so much. We like labour. We like social programs.....we always have. And we were not as afraid of communism (though our spy services came across several groups of Russian communist spies over the years and they certainly were on guard). But as a people...I think you were very much on your own fighting the Russians.

15. Sounds like a modified EU concept. Europeans can't change citizenship, but

they are free to live and work (pay taxes and receive benefits) in other European countries. The free flow of goods and services between European countries is matched by the free flow of people. That balance seems to work well there where the governments are much more progressive than ours.
