Now the other two are feeding, but it looks like it's gone to sleep while the other two are being fed.

4. That's what I thought, too. ^_^ I don't know anything about birds, and I wondered if it was

still feeding on the yolk sak.

It is getting intimidated by the other two, and will probably be laying low a lot. :(

They are very competitive about food.

It's very, very rare for three eaglets to survive.

If food is scarce usually the only one survives - the first one grabs it all and then attacks the other and kills it.

24. I've been watching them too. I read the other day that

it's not unusual when there are 3 chicks that the eldest will kill the youngest, and the mom & dad will do nothing to stop it! It makes me feel bad for the baby chick. I hope that doesn't happen.

Also read that the next is approx 5 feet & can be as large as 9 feet, and weigh 2 tons!

Anyway, I'm enjoying watching this family.

13. Yes. There has regularly been over 100,000 viewers. I've got

it on my laptop which is connected to my big screen and whenever I get sick of Charlie Sheen and political theater on the nooz networks I just punch it up. And, believe me, I've seen a LOT of the eagle cam, lol!

A DUer teacher the other day talked about having 3 computers in the classroom, two tuned into this stream, and the third one being used to research the questions the class was coming up with.

28. The third eaglet that's not moving is usually the youngest and weakest.

If he asserts himself/herself in any way to draw attention, the older babies will attack.
He/she must remain submissive to survive.
One common way for an eaglet to do this is to flatten out and face AWAY from the dominant siblings.
Its chance of survival is dependant on the parents feeding him/her after the other chicks are stuffed and passed out in a "food coma".

31. I noticed the second baby doing it with the first. It would get pecked and then

looked like it collapsed and stayed that way for several minutes at a time. It was then I understood the term "pecking order".

They have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. Her markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, then 3 in 2009, and 3 more in 2010.

49. It's amazing to me what a sensation this has become.

So many people are watching and talking about it! These eagles are only 20 miles from my house, so it seems weird to have something from our local, rural area become a national phenomenon. Ahh, the power of the internet, I guess!

I had never seen a bald eagle my entire life until I reached adulthood, and now in this area they have made such an enormous comeback in the last 20 years that seeing them is fairly commonplace. That is a very cool thing. They are an awesome sight to see.
