How the budgets affect us locally
Here is something... we went in for a parent teacher conference with my 5 year old's kindergarten teacher. She was my oldest daughter's kindergarten teacher as well. My husband went to school with her kids while she was teaching back then... over 30 years ago. She told us that because of the budget cuts the school wanted to switch to a half day kindergarten, but the teachers rose up against it and it will now stay as it is. WTF! i mean, they have so much stuff they have to learn in kindergarten that they barely fit in to a full day! Cutting kindergarten into half days will only make it harder as they have to make it up somewhere!

I made sure my daughter's teacher knew how much we appreciate how much she does. I hope more parents do the same. I consider our taxes to be an investment! I want my kids to have a good education and when I see people shell out big money for tv's and phones, I wonder why they get so upset about their school taxes which provide their kids with an education.

I have to wonder about the preschool program... It's only been in the school for a couple of years now. 2 1/2 hours a day, 5 days with a morning and afternoon class. I hope it will not be cut!! I think it did wonders for Ashley. They can get familiar with the school and structure and get a head start on kindergarten at the same time.

I told my husband it's like not putting gas in your car to save yourself some money. Eventually you will be sitting on the side of the road because you will run out of gas. Now imagine you think it must be something wrong with the engine!! how far will THAT get you!!
