Why don't conservatives understand the quality of education
is related to how much you pay teachers?

They always talk free market solutions, but it never occurs to them that spitting on teachers and cutting their pay is going to result in crappier teachers?

I can say that I've already applied to a bunch of jobs out of WI.

1. You assume conservatives want people to get a good education...
I don't necessarily think that's a good assumption to make ;)

3. They want people to be stupid and ignorant.
If people were well educated, their party would not exist. They WANT crappy teachers, and the cheaper the better.

5. Many are just as rabidly anti-intellectual, leery of any education--the "liberal elites".
They are paranoid. It works for the GOP.

and demand that everybody else to remain so, or else they may feel inferior. They also want to protect us from becoming elitist snobs.

8. With a free market, why wouldn't good teachers earn more?
if there wasn't a government-mandated salary based mostly on seniority, wouldn't the cream rise to the top?

a rising star in the teaching market would be worth a higher salary, be it at that teacher's current school or another school

most professors i know make a lot more at elite private universities compared to state-run universities (it varies widely by field, however)

23. Because good teachers don't increase profits
With a free market, why should we assume that we would get anything other than the lowest quality teachers at the lowest possible wages?

10. CONSERVATIVES
It isn't even about education - it is that they ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY - AND THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THEMSELVES. Generally, they are too dense to understand that education along with collective bargaining improves the entire country - or more likely, they don't care because they are self-serving to the max.

17. That may be true for little kids, but not for upper teens and
young adults.

Not all parents can teach their kids calculus.

18. They understand it all right-for themselves.
The serfs and slaves they want illiterate. It makes them easier to control.
Look at how many slave holding societies made it illegal for a slave to read and write.
There was a reason for that, if they can't communicate with each other they can't plot an uprising.

19. Rushpublicans Thrive On Ignorance...
The last thing a dittohead is is a free thinker. They want to be told what to think and over the past 30 years the GOTB mantra has been that the "intellegensia" (also called "liburls") are the enemy and they use education in "indoctrinate" the masses. It's demonizing the whole educational system and now it's demonizing anyone who is associated with it. Education breeds non-conformity...and that can't fit into the absolutist world of the great unhinged. The less one is educated, the more likely they are to swallow the right wing bullshit.

22. They want...
... the poor to stay poor. They want to maintain and reinforce a class system wherein they are the chosen few based on the accident of birth.

You can see this attitude in most of their "thinking".
