Idaho Repug opposes Abortion, Even w/ Rape and Incest, 'cause the "Hand of the Almighty" is at work

Idaho Lawmaker is Against Abortion, Even in Cases of Rape and Incest, Because the "Hand of the Almighty" Is at Work

(Trigger warning for rape, rape apologia, and Christian supremacy.)

There is not enough shutthefuckup in the world for this mess: Arguing against an abortion exception for rape, Republican state legislator Brent Crane, author of an anti-choice bill in Idaho which would criminalize abortion after 20 weeks with no exceptions for rape/incest, severe fetal abnormality, or psychological health of the pregnant woman, whipped out the old "God's plan" chestnut:

The Idaho bill's House sponsor, state Rep. Brent Crane, R-Nampa, told legislators that the "hand of the Almighty" was at work. "His ways are higher than our ways," Crane said. "He has the ability to take difficult, tragic, horrific circumstances and then turn them into wonderful examples."

I'll just go ahead and reiterate

what I said

when former Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle was talking the same shit: If an anthropomorphic god with a "plan" for every human being existed, and Crane's version of that god were accurate, and that god actively used rape as a way to execute parts of its "plan," then I would seek commune with that god strictly for the purpose of rejecting it outright, strongly preferring on principle an eternal consignment to hellfire than even inadvertently conveying an infinitesimal moment of confusion as to my position.

(H/T to Spudsy.)

13. They don't have to understand it. They just say what they like and insist
that it's "Gawd's will". If you question their interpretation they can always find a bible verse to twist around to mean anything they want it to mean. Reason and logic are not part of the equation.

7. It sounds more like the hand of Satan is involved in rape and incest.
Not the hand of God.

I think the hand of Satan is also involved with Brent Crane.

I sure as hell wouldn't worship a God that tortures and maims women just to get them pregnant.

Is this guy saying that because he believes in a mythological creature that everyone else has to follow his rules?

15. Thank You...
for calling me names, very enlightened and tolerant.Name calling to show how "cool" you are is so junior high.

The up side of this is that the backlash is huge, at least for us progressives trying to turn Idaho around. I'm new to Idaho, having moved here from the east-coast. Yes, the state is in trouble, but it is slowly turning around. Wait until the next round of elections. Not all of us are Neanderthal cretins.

17. well good luck in turning Idaho Blue, Biker Lady.
I wish you success in "the next round of elections" but I'm not holding my breath.
I've spent lots of time in Idaho, it's a beautiful state (geographically), but overall the predominant mind-set is definitely fundie red-neck.

You can take a States political pulse by the people they elect.

Does Larry (wide-stance)Craig ring a bell?
How about Rep. Helen Chenoweth, who believed salmon can't be endangered because she saw lots of cans on Safeway's shelves?

And then there's the panhandle. Richard Butler and the Aryan Nations World Congress sound familiar?

I'm pro labor so I find THIS repulsive too:
"The Idaho Senate and House have gone after unions with gusto this legislative session. Idaho is already a right-to-work state, where workers haven’t been required to join unions as a condition of getting a job since 1985."

The people of Idaho ELECTED these morons and returned them to office time and time again.
Once again..good luck.

12. This is what's REALLY pissing me off about this bill
Let's leave out the part about not allowing abortion after 20 weeks even in the event of terminal fetal abnormality. The Idaho Statesman (Boise's newspaper, and the largest in the state) researched this and found the new law would have stopped exactly six abortions last year--ALL for conditions that would have either killed the fetus before birth or the baby shortly thereafter.

The problem is, over the last 10 years the Great State of Idaho has spent $750,000 to defend unconstitutional abortion laws which were ALL overturned in the courts. The Attorney General, Lawrence Wasden, told the legislature this bill was unconstitutional but the legislature told him to go piss up a rope. And now we're going to spend another quarter-million to defend THIS unconstitutional law.

22. If there is an Abrahamic-Style All-Mighty God
then it is of necessity true that all is as He Wills: For impossible it would be for anything to occur which He does NOT Will.

I do wonder though, what He had against all those folks in 東北地方 (the Tōhoku region of Japan) - but ours is not to understand the Divine Plan.

If He can bring such Stern Justice (for His Justice it must, by definition, be) to the tens of thousands there, He is no less capable of laying His Hand of Tribulation heavily upon some random woman in Idaho - and, no matter how horrible such actions may seem to those of us who sit in the darkness far from the Light of The Lord, who are we Sinners to judge the actions of God?

Of the Abrahamic Faiths (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), only Islam seems unflinchingly to face up to this necessarily true fact and so makes submission to God a central tenant of the religion: لإسلام‎ (al Islām, the Surrender to Allah).

Only Islam does not try to hide the bloody hands of the All-Powerful Creator God of Abraham, for that honesty alone I must admire it.

Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 06:18 PM by Boojatta
Do all Idaho government employees wear chastity belts? I don't think so. It's time to remove firewalls from Idaho government computers. To use those firewalls is to deny the power of the Lord.

...

Also, it's a chore to crack computer systems that are protected by firewalls.
