Shutdown would lay off astronauts, close parks
By Alistair BellPosted 2011/04/08 at 3:11 pm EDT

WASHINGTON, Apr. 8, 2011 (Reuters) — Garbage will pile up in the streets of the capital, the Statue of Liberty will close and astronauts will stay home if the Congress fails to reach a budget deal and the government shuts down.

Government services that are deemed as nonessential run out of funding at midnight on Friday without an agreement between Republicans and Democrats on spending for the rest of the fiscal year.

If lawmakers cannot break the logjam, some 800,000 employees will be sent home without pay when federal agencies close indefinitely.

The famed Yosemite National Park in California will close to new visitors from Saturday, but will give tourists already in its hotels and campgrounds until Monday to pack up and leave.

1. If I was one of those folks already staying at Yosemite
I would be beyond pissed, especially if it was my only vacation of the year.

2. Well this is a chance for the repugs to start closing down all the above
things to see how their bills are going to work..this will be a test to see if we can get along without parks, etc.

3. Do the astronauts at the ISS have to stop breathing U.S. government oxygen?
Are mission controllers also to be laid off?

4. 'Pukes and Parks
those SOBs would just as soon see our Parks and museums sold off to condo developers (ya know, capitalism and all) ...

Another reason for this stupid grandstanding to hopefully blow up in their face.
