Abortion (at this time, at least) is just a chip the repubs are playing
to get the dems to accept the big cuts. It makes me ill. the pukers will give up planned parenthood cuts as they're giving up the EPA rider in order to start the irrevocable slashing of social programs.

1. The Republicans play hardball on every issue and will do whatever
it takes to try to win.

2. It always is. And they'd lose that chip if Roe v. Wade were overturned, and they know it.
The problem with mentioning abortion in this whole debacle is that none of the federal funds that go to Planned Parenthood are used for abortion. NONE.

3. Which is why they did nothing when they were in power
to make abortion illegal country wide. With control of the House, Senate, Presidency and Judiciary from 2001-2007 they probably could have if they really wanted to, but then they would lose their main knee-jerk pander to the religious rightwing extreme, and would have to run on real issues.

4. "...in order to start the irrevocable slashing of social programs."
In order to turn them almost entirely over to the Faith Based funded programs, at some point in the future.

That's my belief, anyway, as we stride headlong toward a "Christian Nation."
