Republicans will do ANYTHING to win, they do not care how bad it looks at the time, because they can just spin it later using buzzwords and talking points and usually come out ahead because this country is too dumbed down to care.

The wimpy excuses for "leadership" we have, (I'm talking to you, Reid and Obama) are more concerned with the process and how they come out looking at the time. If it means giving up core values, it doesn't matter, as long as we looked like the adults in the room. In the end it ends up being a shit sandwich for the people.

Newsflash: Americans don't care about who the "adult" is in the room.....they don't care about the process....if so, they'd NEVER elect Republicans. The Reid-Obama form of "compromise" (give them almost everything in hopes of being seen as the "adults") only resonates with Beltway elite. I think it's high time we stop electing Dem leaders so focused on maintaining the appearance of "consensus" and more focused on WINNING for the working people of this country.

Don't give me that "Not understanding civics" bullshit. It's already old and tired.

5. I'm embarrassed to call myself a democrat nowadays
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 07:48 PM by Ramulux
I'm still trying to figure out why republicans just get to demand 10's of billions of dollars in cuts and the only question automatically becomes, how much are they going to get? Why do they get anything? Why do they get to control the debate? Where are the democrats demands?

All I hear from democrats is, "Oh oh course we have to do massive spending cuts, but the republicans are just going a little too far". Somehow 34.5 billion is OK, but 40 billion isn't? Who besides Bernie Sanders and a handful of progressive house members are even attempting to make an alternative argument about how to reduce the deficit?

This is not a debate, there are two sides to a debate, this is republicans making childish demands and democrats giving them a lot of them for nothing. This is a republican temper tantrum that democrats seem to be trying to spin as an honest attempt to help fix the deficit. There is nothing realistic or rational about these republican demands yet the democrats act as if its totally normal and this looming shutdown is simply a matter of legitimate and courageous disagreement on BOTH SIDES.
