What is the truth?
What does President Obama need to tell the American people?

Does he need charts and graphs to explain himself? The people are desperately craving the truth.

We know he inherited a mess unlike any in our lifetimes. Why doesn't he talk about that? Why doesn't he explain why he asked for the stimulus package? Why doesn't he explain the bailout that George W Bush asked for before he left office? Why doesn't he explain how he was left a deficit of $1.3 trillion dollars by Mr Bush, after the bank bailout? Why doesn't he explain how the stock market dropped from over 14,000 to about 6,500? Why doesn't he explain that his goal was to keep our economy from nose-diving into another Great Depression? Why doesn't he show a graph of how much Bush and the Repubs spent on the wars and the taxbreaks and doubled the national debt in 8 short years? Why doesn't he explain to the people how they did away with regulations on the big banks and let them run wild around the world until they almost collapsed our entire economy?

Instead, he seems to be satisfied letting the Republicans define him and revise history to their liking. Why does he do that? Does he think everyone remembers what happened and their memories do not need to be refreshed? His lack of message and leadership drives people up the wall.

2. I think most folks would like to see him defend himself.
He has no message.

3. My guess is
continually pointing back to how we got here shows a lack of leadership. How we got here is something people are sick of hearing about.

They want leadership on how to get out of the mess, something he is not too good at explaining either.

4. I think you are right that....
people don't want to hear how we got here but when the facts are distorted, they have to be corrected. The President has a bully pulpit. He could make a good case against the Repubs if he so desired.

5. The reality is the Democrats and Republicans
distort the facts to suit their political marketing plans. Everyone over twelve knows this.

I would like to see the bully pulpit used to send a truthful message about how to fix things.

Yes, he needs to tell people his plan for "fixing things" but he also needs to keep reminding them why it needs to be "fixed". Otherwise, he will be defined as the cause of all the problems.

9. I agree Obama needs to remind people of how we got here

But if that is the extent of the strategy then it is a loser.

7. Maybe he should talk about the 413 Americans....
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 07:13 AM by Scuba
...who are worth $1,500,000,000,000 (that's $1.5 TRILLION dollars) !!! Name names, describe their lifestyles, detail the share of the resources they are sucking up.

Then ask: shouldn't they share in the sacrifice?

Class warfare? Damned right.
