4. I post buy USA products and the companies all the time in the GD Forum

Earlier this week I posted about jeans Made in the USA on sale too. IF every American cared enough to purchase ONE USA Made garment per year the impact would be $9 billion. That creates an amazing amount of jobs for USA citizens: http://www.allamericanclothing.com/

Most coffee is grown by little more than slave labor in third world countries. Rodgers brand Coffee Co. is a rare exception as they build homes, schools, etc under their supervision: http://www.gourmet-coffee.com/home.php?xid=f80aeff227a8149fdb1d366e0f898e41 One of only a few non-Hawaiian coffees I buy.

The market for fair trade is so small, very few of the workers see the benefits. So IF you want to spend your dollars where they are making work for Americans, buy American first. Just as I buy only UNION grown and bottled wine out of respect for Maria: http://www.ufw.org/_page.php?menu=organizing&inc=orga_label.html I learned a lot when she died. DA plea deal reduces manslaughter charges to community service: http://action.ufw.org/page/speakout/pleadeal2?source=web

Flip side you will never see me posting to buy at Walmart etc. I buy socially responsible every chance I get. If I don't care when my $ are not spent with a conscience, am I no better than the new wave or robber barons like the Koch's?

About Our Coffee

At 22 degrees North Latitude, Kauai has the ideal geographic location for growing coffee. Relatively cool evenings, light winds, and low cloud cover allow for the slow ripening of cherries. Kauai's soils are weathered, deep and slightly acidic-the perfect environment for coffee cultivation.

All processing by-products are reused. After filtering, factory water is applied back to the fields for irrigation. The cherry pulp mulch from pruning are returned to the fields as soil amendments, restoring nutrients and reducing weeds.

Water resources are reused. A efficient drip irrigation system applies water and fertilizers directly to the trees roots NO pesticides are used. Cultivation practices also have reduced the need for herbicides by 75%. 100% renewable energy. All power need are met by hydroelectricity.

The employees are all members of the ILWU and are among the highest paid coffee workers in the world. Employees receive a full range of benefits, including, dental, and retirement, for themselves and their families.

2. I don't think so
I don't think Steve has a financial stake in the company. It's a decent company that pays its people a living wage and offers all the benefits. We should support companies like this.

3. K & R -Thanks - this is a great thing to know about.
Not something I can afford every day or even most of the time, but hopefully once a month or every few months.
