Protests at Olympia, WA State Capital
Edited on Sun Apr-10-11 10:06 PM by stormpilot
Has anyone been paying attention to what's going on in Olympia, WA? Today was the fourth day of protests at the capital against deep budget cuts, notably without much MSM coverage. Here is footage of today's activities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmCkKeAqLwM&feature=player_embedded#at=25

As stated on the group "OccupyWA"s Facebook page - "The first night, April 6, 2011, 150+ people slept in the Capitol as part of a Week of Action planned, organized and executed by several groups in coordination. The second day, 17 members of SEIU were arrested, because somebody allegedly assaulted a State Trooper. People dispersed, and by 4:30 only a few small groups were left. At 4:33, the doors to the Capitol were locked. Several people standing on the front steps saw the doors being closed, and went around to find all but one door closed and locked. State Troopers stationed at that door told them that only legislators, congressional staff, and LOBBYISTS were allowed inside.

THEY WERE LETTING IN LOBBYISTS, BUT NO CONSTITUENTS!

On our second night (which was NOT planned along with the first), we had 51 of us sleeping in the Capitol, and NO arrests made! More people will join!

We're not leaving until our demands are met!

CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOPHOLES!

NO MORE BUDGET CUTS UNTIL FAIR TAXATION!"

The group also has a Twitter page at http://www.twitter.com/occupyWA

Lastly, here's a brief article from the Seattle Times, indicating "around 7,000 labor union members" http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2014733854_apwaxgrbudgetcutsprotests.html.

I stand in solidarity with the people of Washington! Hope you do too.

1. Following them on Twitter already
I know some of the WI people know about them and are trying to send them pizzas.

And of course there's not any MSM coverage. Can't have Americans catching the revolution flu. Which, haha, is spread by Twitter. Bird flu, indeed.

Speaking of which - I saw something earlier on Twitter about North Korea not allowing North Koreans in Libya to come home, because they might spread news of the Arab Spring.

I can't be on the ground at the moment - no protests near me and no financial resources to get to ones far away - but I can at least do all I can to get the word out and help do my bit to spread the virus of freedom. ;)
