Categories:Newsweeklies.Jonathan Alter out at Newsweek
The final member of the “Newsweek Six” has left the building.

Jonathan Alter, the only remaining member of the gang of television-loving newsweekly scribes so dubbed by Slate’s Jack Shafer, is no longer with the publication.

He sent a note to his contacts over the weekend saying, “With changes afoot, my old Newsweek email addresses are now defunct.”

Andrew Kirk, spokesman for Newsweek and The Daily Beast, confirmed that Alter was “no longer with Newsweek.”

His exit was preceded by fellow “Six” members Howard Fineman (Huffington Post), Michael Isikoff (NBC News), Fareed Zakaria (Time), Jon Meacham (Random House) and Evan Thomas (Princeton).

2. Alter is probably the only one who should have been let go, the mental midget
and Bush apologist.

4. I remember him seeing no point in the Public Option.
I wonder how these people get health insurance now. I guess they have enough in investments and savings for a while, but then what?

They can't necessarily teach; as many Universities are now laying off professors and instructors.

5. Hmmm. I never saw that in him.
Do you have an example? Just curious. It's not related, but he's been battling lymphoma for years. I always admired him.

3. He seems like a decent guy
Which is more than I can say for the rest of the "Newsweek Six".
