NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Gov. Haslam Signs Teacher Tenure Bill Into Law
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Republican Gov. Bill Haslam has signed into law a measure to make it more difficult for teachers to obtain and keep tenure in Tennessee.

Haslam signed the bill in a ceremony at the state Capitol on Tuesday, shortly after the House Education Committee advanced another education bill on the new governor's agenda that would lift a cap on charter schools in Tennessee.

The new law will allow teachers to qualify for tenure after five years on the job, up from the current three. It will also provide a mechanism for teachers to lose tenure if they perform poorly in consecutive years.

The charter schools measure was approved by the House panel on a 12-5 vote. It now heads to the House Finance Committee.

1. It's 5 years where I teach
This is a lot better than tossing tenure out all together.

2. Hmmm Haslam that sounds Muslim
He must be a terrorist infiltrating America to destroy everything. If he was a good American, he would have privatized the schools completely. :sarcasm:
