More Twists and Turns in Wisconsin

The right thing to do here, regardless of the margin of victory, is to do a full hand recount of Waukesha County’s ballots. According to the Wisconsin Secretary of State’s information, voters voted on paper ballots that were then optically scanned.

Rather than running those ballots through a computer, I and others who care about the integrity of our vote, no matter where we live, would love to see a hand count of all the ballots in that county. If the results hold up, fine.

While a lot of voters were upset by the prospect of a Scott Walker ally keeping his spot on the Supreme Court, their upset would be far greater if there’s the chance that Prosser retained his seat through some form of election manipulation. The former, they can accept. The latter would leave them in despair.

Let’s hope Kathy Nickolaus does the right thing. Count all the votes. By hand. In front of observers. Only then can people have faith that the vote was correct.

3. I understand in Waukesha they use the same kind of paper ballots we use here in La Crosse.

You can put your hands on them, touch them, and easily recount them. A simple ballot where you use a black marker to connect the black lines next to the candidate's name.

I cannot remember the exact procedure when I vote, but it seems to me that somebody there signs the ballot I use. So there are no hanging chads on these ballots and it should be easy to determine voter intent. I don't believe these ballots can be easily faked so I am confident that they should be easily recounted.

What I would like to know is if they recount these ballots under the supervision of members of both parties will those at DU accept the result even if they don't like it?

5. If there's that kind of checks, balances and transparency

and if the whole state is counted with out of state auditors present, who don't have a dog in that fight, then yes, this DUer will accept it. This is what I wanted in Florida in 2000 and it turns out this is what should have happened because a non-partisan and transparent audit would have turned up that Gore won. Imagine how different things would have been.
