Will his kind survive? - pic

Will his kind survive? Binay preens at the Philippine Eagle Center near Davao City. The giant forest raptor, endemic to the Philippines, is considered one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. Unfortunately, it is also one the most critically endangered, as villagers still hunt it for food or sport despite its protected status. Only 500 pairs remain in the wild.

3. Very cool looking bird. Will it survive? The best solution
for endangered species in poor countries where they are hunted for food seems to be a thriving industry in tourism based on the survival of that species. This brings much needed money to the needy, so they are able to feed their families without hunting that species. It also puts pressure on those same people to protect their golden eggs. It is a win-win if the interest in tourism can be generated.

5. not if people are hunting it for food
maybe we should introduce quail or pigeons or something else that they can hunt instead (and maybe be a food source for the eagles too)

6. Introducing non-indigenous species...
can have adverse effects.

Pigeons and quail might seem harmless on first glance, but any possible consequences should be considered first.

7. Animal extinction is one thing I'm very passionate about, and that is one beautiful eagle.
Why do they continue to hunt it if they know its endangered? That makes no damn sense to me at all. :(

Remember, if you get a chance sometime this year, to care for the plight of at least one animal. I don't have much these days, but for me the choice is always the Giant Panda. Until the day I die I'll swear a panda performed a miracle for me at the time I REALLY needed one.
