Before freaking out over the proposed budget, read it. Its in PDF form on Whitehouse.gov
Its very very easy to put in a search term to look at specific issues, etc.

I personally believe that it is well though out and merely shifts funds and eliminates duplicative programs. It also addresses fraud, reporting and accounting practices in Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security Disability to reduce costs. Every element of the budget is explained with justifications given for changes.

Do yourself a favor, please read it for yourself. Don't rely solely on the media.

1. Thank the maker I got MY Pell Grant. The rest of you can go hang!!!! (hangs and shakes head)
But yes, overall it seems reasonable. But remember as the starting point in the "negotiation" it will go far rightward of this before everything is said and done.

2. Pell Grants are not being eliminated. They are being cut down to one per year
at $5,500 per year instead of two per year. I really don't that's all that unreasonable.

I wish he would call for a national referendum for a vote regarding raising taxes on those making over 250,000 a year and to close tax loopholes for corps, bypassing the house and senate. I have a feeling that the measure would pass handily, with enough votes to overcome any republican tampering

3. I'm old enough that I only needed one to cover my tuition. Does $5500 do that anymore?

Strangely enough the $20000 average family income to qualify was the one I needed to make back then as well. Course back then that was a lower middle class income where today it's poverty.

Anyway, you're right I suppose. It's not unreasonable. Of course, I can afford to say that now.

4. $5500 pays less than 1/2 a semester of room and board!
And that's at one of the least expensive state universities in Illinois! :(
