Eternal Recurrence: From Bush to Bush to Bush, by way of Clinton and Obama.
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 06:00 PM by JackRiddler
(...some satirical content possible in the following...)

Some show, the last couple of years!

So far it's managed to recreate the major stations of the Clinton Experience:

- Country in 1992/2008: A disaster, at a crossroads. (2008 much worse than in '92, but that's how it felt like then too, for those who remember.)

- People are tired of the most openly criminal regime in history, all mafia and spooks and lies. Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rice, Powell, Rumsfeld... the same gang was all there.

- Suddenly rises a challenger with a new slogan: Hope and Change!

- Hallelujah! We elect the "first black president." (That's what Toni Morrison called Clinton!)

- Soon as the new man is in: Big sellout to corporate capitalism on all fronts. (Obama: Bailouts instead of NAFTA.)

- No investigation of Bush crimes. Let's move on and look to the future! (While we're at it, leave those precious banksters alone!)

- After a preemptive capitulation on the key questions of health care in the US, a year's worth of controversy is spent pretending to do something about it. (Obama succeeds. It's "something," not nothing. Just not something very much.)

- Republicans go crazy, bay for blood, call the new guy a socialist and a foreign agent, fabricate complete lies about him, make not-so subtle calls for armed uprisings and assassination, etc. etc.

- Doofuses with guns form militias and present themselves in three-corner hats.

- The new guy discovers his problem is really the left. Those retards!

- Media covers the idiocy in a "balanced" way. ("Some say the earth is round. Others say it is flat. We will report what they say, and let you decide!") (Also: "Have we given a fair hearing to Americans who believe it's even flatter than that?")

- Mid-term elections bring a 4-percent reversal in Congressional elections that the media says is amazing, sweeping, historic, a watershed, a shellacking, etc. etc. blah blah blah. Lots of new right-wing radicals take various offices, declare a revolution in the making.

- Insane right-wing propaganda contributes to violent incidents with civilian casualties.

- Suddenly, deficit is supposedly everything and Republicans may shut down government because America is almost bankrupt and nothing, nothing else matters.

- Increasingly, the new guy looks like a lock for reelection, with Republicans likely to advance some old fogey milquetoast who doesn't inspire them (Dole, Mittens).

So if next year you hear that MTV asked Obama whether he wears boxers or briefs, you'll know what to expect in a second term. (Who gets to play the Monica?)

Goddamn, it sucks to just keep getting older and seeing the same shit happen over and over.

The big differences I suppose are that:

a) there are honest-to-god uprisings from Egypt to Wisconsin, but

b) the world is much more toast than it ever was.

Because we just wasted another 16 years following the rules as set by banksters, war-mongers, blindman practitioners of "realpolitik," spooks and petroleum chieftains. And the temperatures are rising and the oil's running out (except that now deposited on the ocean floor in the Gulf of Mexico) and they're going to frak the Marcellus Shale and there are no jobs and all debts are quadrupled (not just government) and the banksters are plundering worse than ever and the crises are converging... and all that matters apparently is to get "control of the deficit." As long as that doesn't involve touching the precious wealth of the precious Billionaires Who Give us Everything, blessed may they be, or ending the Perpetual War for Peace.
