Poll question: Rate your represenative to US Congress here (this time I will give you a 0)
Got such great responses from the governor one.

Mine is former Lt Governor John Carney, first time we had a democrat in the seat since Mike Castle opted to run for US Senate and was upset by the dingbat O'Donnell.

Carney won in a landslide but was expected since he was running against another crazy teabagger who upset the moderate Republican that might have given Carney a run for his money. Thank goodness for closed elections in Delaware. Democrats way outnumber the republicans but will vote for moderate republicans if offered (which is how Mike Castle would win for the past 3 decades of elections). But the lunatic teabaggers outnumber the sane republicans so in closed elections the crazies win making it easy for Dems to win in the general election.

I give Carney a 4 since he's still a bit moderate for my taste but doing good so far.

Post who your representative is and why they get the rating

1. My representative is Betty McCollum. She's terrific on all counts.
Edited on Fri Apr-15-11 11:45 AM by MineralMan
I wish everyone had her in Congress.

"McCollum received a 91% progressive rating from a self-described non-partisan group that provides a "searchable database of Congressional voting records from a Progressive perspective"<4> and scored a 13% conservative rating by the conservative group, SBE Council.<5>

Representative McCollum has supported the interests of Pro-Choice interest groups such as Planned Parenthood, National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association, and NARAL Pro-Choice America. <1> Most of these groups have the same main goals. One example would be the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association which aims to provide access to “family planning and reproductive health care services and to support reproductive freedom for all”. <2> She indicated on the 2002 National Political Awareness Test that she believed abortions should always be legally available, but only within the first trimester of pregnancy. <3>

The entire time Representative McCollum has been in office, she has supported gay civil rights. <4> The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. <5> They have continually approved of her voting record. <6> In one speech opposing the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment, she stated, "Gay and lesbian Americans are citizens who must never be treated as second class citizens". <7>"

15. 0 Roscoe Bartlett, MD's only Rethug and a do-nothing ancient TPer to boot
Edited on Fri Apr-15-11 12:20 PM by Waiting For Everyman
The Dems NEVER run a strong candidate against this guy - in office since 1993. He hasn't even gotten the main interstate through here widened in all that time, which goes from 3 lanes to 2 from the north, south, east, and west right at my city (in the middle of that), creating a disaster bottleneck traffic jam EVERY DAY.

He didn't even get stimulus funds for that. What a loser! He can't even do the earmark thing right.

It's a local joke that any candidate who is bright enough to say one word, "roads!", would get elected. That's probably true, too. Yet we never get a Dem bright enough to do that.

Pathetic.

(edit: not the only MD rethug, forgot Andy whats-his-name.)

17. My representative is NOBODY
so I will give him/her a 5. I was represented by the distinguished Christopher (I took my shirt off for Craig's List) Lee (R). Since he left his post in disgrace it's one less vote in the "R" column, and therefore he avoided the dreaded vote of zero.

21. Pete Defazio, a great rep!
Sadly, I think the majority of representatives should be somewhat in the middle (they do represent both repugs and Dems after all). That isn't really the case any more, the repugs are only interested in serving those who contributed/supported them in the last election. The democrats have been a bit slow to toss aside their convictions and approach legislation the same way.

36. Worst of the worst - Scott Garrett (R) NJ-5
I am in the only Democratic town in the district which stretches from the Hudson River (where I am near) in a narrow ribbon through towns that are so Republicans that Dems don't even run there to Delaware River cow country.

The next town to my south and most neighboring towns have one of the best - Steve Rothman (D) NJ-9. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my town is moved into the 5th (20 years ago we were in the 5th) after redistricting. Garrett is so far to the right I can hardly believe that anyone could be worse.
